About The Position

The Senior Buyer role is crucial for keeping production moving, inventory flowing, and suppliers engaged. This position involves strategy, analysis, negotiation, and problem-solving to ensure manufacturing operations receive necessary materials at the best cost. The role is dynamic, with daily tasks ranging from supplier negotiations and inventory analysis to resolving production issues and leading cost-reduction initiatives. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, materials planning, or inventory management.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to build supplier partnerships.
  • Data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of manufacturing environments and production schedules.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings or experience with technical products.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels, from warehouse teams to senior leadership.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive approach to process improvement and results-driven mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards, QAD, or similar ERP systems.
  • Purchasing or Supply Chain certifications (CPP, CPSM, APICS, etc.).
  • Experience creating cost models or conducting sourcing analyses.
  • SQL or database skills.
  • Spanish language skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing supplier relationships and sourcing materials to ensure smooth production.
  • Negotiating pricing, lead times, contracts, and service agreements with suppliers.
  • Analyzing demand, forecasts, and production schedules to anticipate inventory needs.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Customer Service teams.
  • Leading cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining quality and service.
  • Troubleshooting shortages, delays, and supplier challenges to prevent customer impact.
  • Creating and improving purchasing processes, SOPs, and best practices.
  • Training and mentoring new buyers, serving as a resource for the purchasing team.
  • Driving supplier performance in quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  • Utilizing reporting, forecasting, and inventory analysis to inform decisions.
