About The Position

The Senior Buyer will oversee the full procure to pay process for assigned product category, with a focus on vendor negotiations, strategic procurement cost optimization, on time delivery, sourcing and process improvements. This position will play a lead role in day to day Purchasing functions while helping to support the Buyers and Purchasing Assistant. The position will be approximately 60% in the office and 40% remote after training period, depending on department needs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5+ years in a purchasing or buying role
  • High aptitude for working with numbers and analyzing data
  • 2-year or 4-year business degree
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Knowledge of ISO and Lean Manufacturing Processes
  • Intermediate level computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to effectively make consistently sound and timely decisions.
  • Ability to anticipate, analyze, diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Ability to facilitate agreements between two or more parties.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, build rapport and relate well to all kinds of people.
  • Ability to demonstrate self-control and an ability to manage time and priorities.
  • Ability to improve processes to increase productivity and efficiency by continually finding ways to “work smarter, not harder.”

Responsibilities

  • Maximize gross margin by purchasing at lowest possible cost through strategic purchasing plans and transactional purchase orders.
  • Lead procurement activities for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with company strategy.
  • Mentor Buyer and Purchasing Assistant in best practices to obtain cost saving goals.
  • Ensure timely receipt of requested product for customers by understanding and mentoring team members on standard item fulfillment strategy, working with vendors for rush orders, and managing on-time delivery metrics.
  • Drive vendor performance and follow up as needed by organizing and leading vendor meetings, holding vendors accountable to quality requirements, and collaborating with vendors and marketing on standard item selection.
  • Determine what to buy, how to acquire it, and define project-specific requirements, including sourcing new products, working cross-departmentally, and reviewing materials and sub-contracting work.
  • Purchase for Production activities by entering and updating product records and maintaining MRP and inventory replenishment.
  • Support optimal inventory levels by reviewing inventory turns, managing returns, minimizing aged inventory, and maintaining replenishment levels from key vendors.
  • Continually look for ways to improve processes and systems to make them more efficient and effective.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
