Senior Buyer (Planner) (PSP)

Veeco•Township of Horsham, PA
•$92,513 - $135,686

About The Position

Veeco’s Precision Surface Processing business is scaling production of advanced wet etch and clean systems. The Senior Buyer (Planner) connects Engineering, Planning, suppliers, and production to maintain material availability for existing tool builds when parts are constrained or designs change. The role supports material readiness for PSP systems serving advanced packaging and next-generation semiconductor manufacturing and helps strengthen the global supply approach through qualified alternatives, technical drawing interpretation, and clear parts-availability visibility. The position owns material readiness for assigned PSP tool requirements and translates production demand and engineering inputs into procurement and planning actions. It coordinates engineering changes, evaluates alternative components, supports sourcing decisions, and works cross-functionally to reduce supply risks that could interrupt production.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or high-technology environment with a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree with 6 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Professional experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Professional experience coordinating procurement or planning activity affected by engineering design changes.
  • Ability to compare components by form, fit, and function and translate technical differences into practical sourcing recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of ECRs and ECOs and their downstream effects on purchasing, inventory, and production planning.
  • Ability to turn shortage, lead-time, and parts-availability data into concise, actionable reports.
  • Cross-functional judgment when balancing engineering requirements, production schedules, supplier constraints, quality, and cost.
  • Comfort working with suppliers and internal partners across regions and time zones in a global supply environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical sourcing issues clearly to engineers, planners, manufacturing teams, and suppliers.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for ownership and practical problem-solving in an agile environment where priorities can shift with customer and production needs.

  • Create parts-availability and shortage reports to support production planners and operations leaders in build and schedule decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve supply risks before they interrupt tool builds.
  • Expand the qualified global supply base for existing-tool requirements while balancing availability, technical fit, lead time, quality, and cost.
