Senior Buyer (Planner) (PSP)

Veeco•Horsham, PA

About The Position

Veeco’s Precision Surface Processing (PSP) business is scaling production of advanced wet etch and clean systems, creating a need for improved material availability, substitution planning, and engineering-change coordination. The Senior Buyer (Planner) connects Engineering, Planning, suppliers, and production to keep existing tool builds moving when parts are constrained or designs change. The role influences material readiness for PSP systems serving advanced packaging and next-generation semiconductor manufacturing, and helps strengthen the global supply approach by identifying qualified alternatives, translating technical drawings into sourcing decisions, and providing production teams with clear visibility into part availability.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or high-technology environment with a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Professional experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Professional experience coordinating procurement or planning activity affected by engineering design changes.
  • Ability to compare components by form, fit, and function and translate technical differences into practical sourcing recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders and their downstream effects on purchasing, inventory, and production planning.
  • Skill in turning shortage, lead-time, and parts-availability data into concise reports that production teams can act on.
  • Cross-functional judgment when balancing engineering requirements, production schedules, supplier constraints, quality, and cost.
  • Comfort working with suppliers and internal partners across regions and time zones in a global supply environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical sourcing issues clearly to engineers, planners, manufacturing teams, and suppliers.
  • Ownership and practical problem-solving in an agile environment where priorities can shift with customer and production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Own material readiness for assigned PSP tool requirements by translating production demand and engineering inputs into timely procurement and planning actions.
  • Identify and evaluate global form, fit, and function alternatives for constrained or unavailable parts, partnering with Engineering to protect technical requirements and production continuity.
  • Coordinate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) from supply-chain impact review through material disposition and planning alignment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bills of material to make informed sourcing and substitution decisions for complex equipment components.
  • Create clear parts-availability and shortage reporting to help production planners and operations leaders make informed build and schedule decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve supply risks before they interrupt tool builds.
  • Expand the qualified global supply base for existing-tool requirements while balancing availability, technical fit, lead time, quality, and cost.
