About The Position

The Senior Buyer - Communications is responsible for all purchasing of material, equipment, and supplies. This role will be a member of major project teams, obtain quotations, prepare and place purchase orders for various commodities, materials, supplies, and equipment. The Senior Buyer will also serve as a customer liaison for Defective Material Reporting, conduct vendor audits, manage the vendor base, and determine the most economical sources of supply. Additionally, this role will support Engineering in new product and vendor development, expedite deliveries, maintain or improve purchase costs, recommend purchasing policies and procedures, maintain vendor information in the database, and control inventory levels for assigned commodities. The position requires familiarity with MRP Purchasing, negotiation of major contracts, and participation in the Material Review Board (MRB) as needed, including developing and processing Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) and assisting in part analysis. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ related experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Availability for nonstandard or extended work schedule
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of personal computers
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Requires having the technical ability to learn quickly, and being capable of applying this knowledge towards new engineering concepts
  • Background in project management
  • Requires self-motivation and ability to complete objectives
  • Pleasant and helpful telephone manner
  • Detail oriented
  • Familiar with MRP Purchasing
  • General knowledge of ISO 9000

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of major project teams
  • Obtain quotations, prepare and place purchase orders in a group or groups of commodities, material, supplies and equipment
  • Customer liaison for Defective Material Reporting
  • Conduct Vendor Audits and provide constructive feedback
  • Responsible for managing vendor base
  • Determine proper sources of supply for most economical purchases
  • Locate new sources of supplies as necessary
  • Support Engineering in the development of new products and/or new vendors
  • Expedite deliveries as necessary to meet production schedules
  • Maintain or improve purchase costs relative to the established standards
  • Recommend policies and procedures for purchasing functions
  • Maintain vendor information in the database
  • Control of inventory levels for assigned commodities
  • Negotiate major contracts
  • Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) as needed – including developing and processing Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) and assisting in part analysis
  • Assist with other related duties as required or assigned
