About The Position

The Senior Business Systems Analyst within the Accounting, Compliance & Governance team in the University Controller's Office is responsible for providing advanced technical and functional leadership for enterprise financial systems, with primary emphasis on Workday Financials and related reporting and data solutions. This role serves as the lead analyst and technical authority for finance-related ERP solutions, setting analysis standards, guiding solution design and testing practices, and ensuring high-quality, well-governed system outcomes. Working closely with finance, accounting, data governance, and IT partners, the Analyst translates business and compliance needs into functional designs, configuration support, testing strategies, deployment coordination, and complex post-production support. The position exists to ensure financial data and system solutions are technically robust and supportive of institutional decision making, operationally efficient, and aligned with regulatory accounting standards (GAAP, GASB, Uniform Guidance).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting systems, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for a degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate daily work by providing technical guidance and mentorship, prioritizing and monitoring tasks, resolving operational issues, supporting process improvements, and acting as a liaison between staff and management modeling professionalism, accountability, and compliance with policies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with modern ERP systems (such as Workday Financials), including reporting, testing, and production support.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with diverse groups and teams; create a culture of inclusion and equity throughout the team while supporting the overall culture of FPB.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, GASB, Uniform Guidance, or audit-related reporting.
  • Experience with SQL, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Workday Financials or Reporting certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead analyst for finance-related ERP initiatives, guiding advanced requirements analysis and solution design efforts.
  • Guide and support the work of the Finance Projects Team (3 FTE), driving accountability, quality, and consistency through proactive guidance, feedback, and adherence to established testing, documentation, and communication standards.
  • Lead the elicitation, documentation, validation, and management of complex functional, non‑functional, data, security, and audit requirements.
  • Translate accounting, regulatory, and governance requirements into detailed functional designs, report specifications, calculated field logic, and configuration recommendations within Workday Financials.
  • Perform and review impact and dependency analyses related to ERP configuration changes, data model updates, and reporting enhancements, identifying enterprise-level risks and downstream effects.
  • Act as a senior technical subject matter expert for Workday Financials capabilities and constraints, advising leadership and stakeholders on feasible, sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Analytics & Decision Support and UWIT to lead the design, build, and ongoing maintenance of complex Workday reports and dashboards (including matrix, composite, and calculated-field driven reports).
  • Define testing standards and strategies for Finance, Planning & Budgeting-related ERP work, including functional testing, UAT, regression testing, and validation across accounting periods and Workday companies.
  • Coordinate and lead regression testing related to Workday releases, configuration changes, and Financial Data Model updates.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex production issues, performing or guiding root-cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.
  • Partner with UWIT, FPB, Dean’s Offices, and business owners to coordinate deployments and resolve high-impact system or reporting defects.
  • Act as a lead partner to FDM and data governance functions, ensuring Workday reporting and data outputs consistently apply approved definitions, hierarchies, and attributes.
  • Guide validation and reconciliation of data flows between Workday and downstream systems, reports, or analytics platforms.
  • Support documentation of system behavior, reporting logic, and data lineage to strengthen internal controls and audit readiness.
  • Provide advisory support on data-related change requests, assessing technical implications and alignment with governance and regulatory accounting standards.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other analysts or project team members.
  • Develop and maintain technical and functional documentation, templates, and analytical artifacts used across finance ERP initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Finance Project Team by establishing and enabling consistent use of standardized methodologies, artifacts, and documentation practices.
  • Represent UCO on cross-functional committees, governance forums, and project teams.
