Senior Business Intelligence Developer (Power BI)
About The Position
Dentive is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to support the development and ongoing improvement of its enterprise reporting and analytics capabilities. This hands-on Power BI role independently builds sophisticated reports, develops and optimizes semantic models, and translates business requirements into reliable, scalable reporting solutions. The developer works closely with Data & Technology leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, leveraging the Microsoft Fabric data platform to deliver financial, operational, and workforce analytics. Success in the role includes delivering accurate, polished Power BI reporting solutions from requirements through deployment; improving performance, consistency, and reliability; developing reusable semantic models and standardized approaches; troubleshooting complex reporting and data discrepancies; building strong stakeholder relationships; and helping scale the organization's business intelligence capabilities.
Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience.
- Advanced proficiency in DAX, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and semantic modeling.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, relationships, filter context, and data model optimization.
- Experience implementing row-level security and managing reporting access.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver production-quality reports and dashboards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Warehouses, Lakehouses, or Direct Lake.
- Familiarity with Power BI Premium, DirectQuery, and composite models.
- Experience with DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, or similar development tools.
- Experience with version control, deployment pipelines, and BI development best practices.
- Experience supporting financial, operational, or workforce reporting.
- Background in healthcare, multi-location businesses, or private equity-backed organizations.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
- Create advanced DAX measures, including financial calculations, time intelligence, and dynamic reporting metrics.
- Develop and optimize data models using dimensional modeling and star-schema principles.
- Implement and maintain row-level security (RLS) and reporting access controls.
- Write SQL queries to validate reporting data, investigate discrepancies, and support development.
- Optimize Power BI reports and semantic models for performance, usability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver actionable reporting solutions.
- Work with data engineering to leverage centralized data within Microsoft Fabric.
- Support maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and enhancement of existing reporting solutions.
- Promote consistency in KPI definitions, reporting standards, and development practices.
