About The Position

The Senior Business Development (BD) Officer will create and maintain high-level relationships, partnerships and alliances with target industries and companies to build internships and full-time opportunities. The candidate will develop a strong understanding of our BCom and Master’s programs to best promote a world-class international talent pipeline to existing and new corporate partnerships. The Senior BD Officer will spearhead corporate relations planning and initiatives, including planning of outreach communications, campaigns, follow-ups, events promotion and engagement. In collaboration with the Director, Soutar Career Management Services, and the Events & Communications Officer, the incumbent will oversee the strategic alignment and timely execution of all BD-led recruitment and networking activities.

  • Proven ability to manage teams and lead a strategy.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (English and French).
  • Highly adaptable, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of current labor market trends and employer needs.
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 20%).
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 Years Related Experience
  • Knowledge of English: Level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

  • Experience with CRM systems and recruitment platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Orbis) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development plan targeting priority industries, companies, and high-growth sectors.
  • Build, manage, and deepen relationships with key employer partners to drive recruitment outcomes and long-term engagement.
  • Identify and develop new partnerships, particularly in underrepresented sectors.
  • Establish and implement a structured employer tiering and engagement model to optimize recruitment activities.
  • Develop and monitor sponsorship models and corporate partnership plans in consultation with industry liaisons.
  • Lead employer outreach and engagement for marquee Soutar career management recruitment events (e.g., Toronto Meet McGill, Real Talk Career Nights, Jaclyn Fisher Career Fair, industry events, networking initiatives).
  • Define event objectives, ensure strong employer participation, and oversee post-event evaluation, feedback collection and corporate partners’ satisfaction.
  • Represent the Faculty and Career management at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Define and monitor KPIs across all business development activities and employer engagement initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain efficient processes to track partnerships, outreach efforts, and market intelligence using CRM tools.
  • Leverage platforms in collaboration with Marketing/Communications (e.g., CRM systems, market intelligence tools, digital channels) to enhance outreach and reporting.
  • Track and record employer engagement activity.
  • Analyze data and employer feedback to inform priorities, improve service offerings, and guide decision-making.
  • Collaborate with career coaches to align employer outreach with student profiles and hiring needs.
  • Partner with the Communications and Events Officer to develop and execute targeted employer engagement plans including outreach communications and events promotion.
  • Work with University Advancement team to support alumni engagement initiatives linked to career outcomes.
  • Share insights, market trends, and performance updates with senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and hiring patterns to identify opportunities and gaps.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to enhance employer engagement and student employment outcomes.
  • Continuously refine business development approaches to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
