About The Position

West Fraser is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Senior Business Analyst, Trade Compliance for their Vancouver Corporate office. This role is within the finance group and integral to the Trade Compliance team. The position offers an opportunity to deepen business acumen and act as a trusted advisor in a high-profile area. The Trade File pertains to the ongoing softwood lumber trade dispute between Canada and the United States, involving duties and tariffs. The team is responsible for responding to U.S. Department of Commerce questionnaires and collaborating with external legal counsel to analyze financial and operational data for these responses. This high-profile position offers company-wide perspective, exposure to global operations, legal structure, and finance/business practices. The role requires working closely with senior leaders, C-suite executives, internal teams across various sites, and external stakeholders. Success depends on the ability to tailor messages, navigate complex information, and influence without direct authority. Experience gained in this role develops transferable skills for broader finance responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Canadian CPA designation (foreign equivalents may be considered)
  • 3+ years audit experience at a Big 4 public practice firm, including at least 1 year at the senior level
  • Well-established organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Data manipulation and transformation skills in Microsoft Power Query

  • Forest industry experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the anti-dumping section of the softwood lumber investigation, including gathering, summarizing, and presenting data, as well as being the point of contact with external legal counsel and other 3rd party experts
  • Preparation and reconciliation of other key data related to the anti-dumping investigation
  • Preparing quarterly and year-end financial statement disclosures related to export duties and tariffs
  • Providing strategic ideas and future development for financial improvement for business processes and systems
  • Developing a detailed understanding of the anti-dumping duty legal process and recommending defensive strategies to management
  • Leading presentations on risk mitigation and other topics to management
  • Assist with the countervailing duty section of the U.S. Trade File
  • Analyzing both financial and non-financial data
  • Coordinating data and information requests across multiple internal teams
  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency of submissions to external legal counsel
  • Supporting the development of risk assessments and mitigation strategies
