About The Position

The Department of Student Housing builds, maintains and operates facilities that promote and support a learning-centered and resident-focused organization. Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the incumbent has operational responsibility for the maintenance and repair of all buildings within Student Housing. The incumbent has assigned duties in multiple semi-skilled areas within the building trades to include: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and lock repair.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze all interior and exterior plumbing problems.
  • Skill to operate a power and hand snake.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze problems with electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of breaker systems and time clocks.
  • Skills to replace, repair, or install: light fixtures, outlets, switches, garbage disposals, heating system and bathroom fans.
  • Ability to perform minor interior and exterior carpentry projects.
  • Skills in furniture repair, door and doorframe replacement, light framing, repair of wall patching and drywall, acoustical ceiling repair and floor tiling.
  • Skills to prepare surfaces for application of paint materials.
  • Ability to apply paint, varnish, stains, enamel or lacquer to various interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Ability to read and write English to submit written reports and work orders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and serve as the work leader for a small group of Building Maintenance Workers, temporary staff or student staff.
  • Required to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Experience with and ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic lock systems.
  • A working knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • One year experience as a Building Maintenance Worker, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • California driver’s license.
  • Must have two or more years’ experience work in building maintenance or related position.
  • Must be able to communicate in English – both verbally and in writing – for purpose of instruction and record keeping.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to pass background check.
  • Must be willing and able to be on-call to respond to after hours maintenance issues.
  • Must be willing and able to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Must be willing and able to assist in the event of a disaster.
  • Must be able to lift and carry loads over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Responsibilities

  • Operational responsibility for the maintenance and repair of all buildings within Student Housing.
  • Assigned duties in multiple semi-skilled areas within the building trades to include: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and lock repair.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze all interior and exterior plumbing problems.
  • Operate a power and hand snake.
  • Determine if plumbing problems are to be referred to Facilities Management.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze problems with electrical systems.
  • Replace, repair, or install: light fixtures, outlets, switches, garbage disposals, heating system and bathroom fans.
  • Determine and advise supervisor if electrical job is to be referred to Facilities Management.
  • Perform minor interior and exterior carpentry projects.
  • Repair furniture, doors and doorframes, light framing, wall patching and drywall, acoustical ceiling repair and floor tiling.
  • Maintain the interior or exterior of assigned buildings.
  • Prepare surfaces for application of paint materials.
  • Apply paint, varnish, stains, enamel or lacquer to various interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers or spray equipment.
  • Submit written reports and work orders.
  • Work as part of a team and serve as the work leader for a small group of Building Maintenance Workers, temporary staff or student staff.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic lock systems.
