The Community Development Department supports the City’s vision for safe, orderly, and well-planned growth through the work of the Planning Division and the Building & Safety Division. The Planning Division is responsible for land use review, environmental review, long-range planning, and implementation of the General Plan and Development Code. The Building & Safety Division is responsible for building permit review, permit issuance, construction inspection, and enforcement of adopted building codes to help ensure the safety, accessibility, and quality of the built environment. Together, these divisions guide development from initial land use review through construction and final occupancy. The Senior Building Inspector plays a key leadership role in supporting safe, high-quality development throughout the City. This position is responsible for leading complex building inspection and plan review activities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, while ensuring compliance with applicable building, zoning, safety, accessibility, and related codes and standards. Serving as a technical expert within the Building & Safety Division, the Senior Building Inspector provides guidance and mentorship to inspection staff, assists with code interpretation, conducts detailed field inspections, and supports consistent application of adopted codes and City procedures. The role requires sound judgment, technical expertise, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, property owners, City staff, and leadership.
