About The Position

Natera is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join its Bioinformatics team dedicated to early cancer detection. As a core member of the Research and Development department, this person will design and implement computational solutions, develop algorithms and pipelines, and analyze complex genomic datasets to advance early-stage cancer diagnostics. The role calls for someone who can work as an individual contributor, collaborative co-developer, and participant in large-scale cross-departmental initiatives. The position focuses on developing and validating computational methods and automated clinical diagnostic workflows, analyzing multi-omic data, and collaborating with wet-lab scientists and statisticians. It also involves code review, technical documentation, and optimization of computational infrastructure.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Cancer Biology, or a related quantitative field.
0–3 years of professional or postgraduate experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.
Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex computational findings to diverse cross-functional stakeholders.
Deep expertise in high-throughput DNA sequencing (NGS) analysis, including sequence alignment, mapping, and clinical-grade variant calling.
Track record of developing high-impact bioinformatics methodologies.
Advanced knowledge of data structures, algorithm design, and computational complexity analysis.
High proficiency in Python and scientific libraries including NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn.
Experience with workflow orchestration languages for scalable bioinformatics pipelines.
Experience with cloud-based distributed computing environments, specifically AWS.
Familiarity with contemporary analytical techniques and biomarkers in cancer biology.
Working knowledge of public genomic databases such as TCGA, COSMIC, or OncoKB.
Proficiency in Linux, command-line tools, and shell scripting.

Experience with WDL workflow orchestration.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and validate algorithms and statistical models to extract actionable insights from large-scale genomic datasets for early cancer detection.
Co-architect, implement, and deploy automated clinical diagnostic workflows for variant calling, fusion detection, and automated quality control.
Contribute to code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and optimize core computational infrastructure.
Analyze complex multi-omic data using internal pipelines and collaborate with wet-lab scientists and statisticians to meet research milestones.
