About The Position

Bright Data is seeking an experienced Backend JavaScript Developer to join its Proxy Network team, which builds and operates core backend services powering the company’s networking infrastructure. The role focuses on high-performance, highly reliable systems, with a strong emphasis on networking, security, and scale. The developer will own services and features end to end in production and tackle challenges involving network traffic, protocols, performance, and reliability.

The technology stack includes Node.js, JavaScript, MongoDB, Redis, Kubernetes, and AWS.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including at least 2 years focused on backend JavaScript / Node.js development.
• Very good understanding of the Node.js event loop and practical knowledge of platform strengths and limitations, including I/O versus CPU-bound workloads, asynchronous patterns, blocking pitfalls, and memory and garbage collection considerations.
• Proven experience building and operating production backend services.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and security, including TCP/IP/UDP, DNS, HTTP/1, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, TLS, and WebSockets.
• Experience with databases and caching layers such as MongoDB and Redis.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
• Proficiency in system design fundamentals, including APIs, scalability, performance, reliability, and fault tolerance.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with AWS and SaaS environments.
• Experience debugging production networking issues such as latency, packet loss, connection reuse, and TLS handshakes.
• Experience with observability tooling for logs, metrics, and tracing, and with incident response or on-call.

Responsibilities

• Develop features end to end, from design and implementation through production rollout and ongoing improvement.
• Build and maintain high-scale backend services, emphasizing performance, reliability, and security.
• Participate in system design and architecture planning to support scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Address networking challenges involving traffic flows, proxy behavior, request and response handling, and protocol-level edge cases.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex networking issues using Wireshark and similar packet inspection and debugging tools.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code with appropriate test coverage and participate actively in code reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.
• Continuously learn and apply best practices in backend engineering and networking.
