About The Position
This is a fully remote role with flexible hours for a Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js) at BlueThrone. BlueThrone specializes in scaling indie mobile products into global successes, boasting 80M+ downloads, 20M+ MAU, and $14M+ ARR. They operate with a lean, fast-paced approach, emphasizing ownership and building impactful products. This role is for individuals who thrive on autonomy and significant impact, rather than structure and predictability. The engineer will work on a flagship product, an analytics-driven music platform that helps millions understand their listening habits. This is a backend-only position requiring deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript, focusing on designing and scaling systems for growth, not just maintenance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems at scale, with a proven track record of handling millions of users.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript for backend development, including a deep understanding of async code, event loops, and backend architecture.
- Experience designing scalable architectures and REST APIs.
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch, including experience with large datasets and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Redis and RabbitMQ for building fast and resilient systems.
- Familiarity with infrastructure components such as Nginx, Kubernetes, and deployment pipelines.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Go, either shipping services with it or a strong desire to learn it as part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve backend systems that support millions of active users, from designing architecture to ensuring smooth operation at scale.
- Build clean, reliable, and intuitive APIs for the frontend team to facilitate rapid development.
- Work with complex data flows, caching, and messaging systems.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks before they impact users.
- Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and data teams to ship and iterate quickly.
- Contribute fresh ideas, push technological limits, challenge assumptions, and elevate backend engineering standards.
