About The Position

Ajaib Group is an Indonesian fintech company focused on expanding access to financial services. The Senior Backend Engineer II will join the Platform team and own shared backend services that Ajaib products depend on, including identity, notifications, configuration, and API gateways. The role covers service design through production operation, with an emphasis on scalability, security, reliability, and supporting multiple product teams. The engineer will also mentor colleagues and work with product engineering, Security, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams to deliver reliable solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience, with a track record of owning production services used by other teams or handling high traffic.
• Strong skills in Java, Go, or another modern backend language.
• Solid understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, event-driven design, reliability, and observability practices.
• Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases, query tuning, Redis caching, and Kafka messaging.
• Strong knowledge of authentication and authorization, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT, as well as secure coding.
• Experience running services on GCP or AWS, using containers and CI/CD.
• Ownership mindset, clear communication, and a service attitude toward internal users.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate scalable, secure shared backend services and APIs used by multiple product teams.
• Own larger services end to end, including monitoring, alerting, on-call follow-up, and support for the teams that use them.
• Design stable APIs with clear contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, and safe deprecation.
• Build and improve identity and access features, including sign-in, sessions, tokens, permissions, and account security.
• Improve service resilience through rate limiting, graceful degradation, consumer isolation, and safe rollouts.
• Improve observability through useful metrics, logs, and traces, and establish service level objectives with dependent teams.
• Lead design reviews and provide thoughtful code reviews.
• Investigate production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and deliver lasting fixes.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and share knowledge within the team.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams, Security, Infrastructure, and Architecture to turn requirements into reliable solutions.
