About The Position

TELUS Digital is seeking a hands-on Senior AWS Engineer to design, build, and deliver serverless applications and APIs on AWS for enterprise clients. The engineer owns technical delivery from design through production, writes high-quality code, defines infrastructure as code, and applies AWS best practices for security, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role works with architects, product teams, client stakeholders, and other engineers to turn business problems into reliable cloud-native systems. The position includes leading client engagements, mentoring engineers, and helping establish engineering standards across the Cloud Engineering practice. Experience with Amazon Connect and contact center solutions is beneficial, while deep AWS serverless expertise is central to the role. Work may be performed remotely from within the United States or Canada, or from listed North American offices. The role may involve up to 25% annual travel.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 4 years building and operating production applications on AWS.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS serverless services, including Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, and S3.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Node.js/TypeScript and a track record of designing and building scalable APIs and event-driven architectures.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, SAM, or Terraform, and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Strong understanding of AWS security practices, including IAM, Cognito, KMS, Secrets Manager, and network security fundamentals.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing for distributed systems using CloudWatch, X-Ray, or similar tools.
  • Solid grasp of software design principles, testing strategies, and performance optimization in cloud-native environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with clients in a consulting or professional services environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to client locations.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS certifications such as Developer Associate, Solutions Architect Associate, or Solutions Architect Professional.
  • Experience with Amazon Connect, contact center solutions, or conversational AI services such as Amazon Lex, Amazon Bedrock, or Amazon Q.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build serverless applications and scalable, event-driven services using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB.
  • Design, implement, and document secure, well-versioned RESTful and GraphQL APIs, with attention to performance, authentication, and developer experience.
  • Write clean, tested, maintainable Python or Node.js/TypeScript code, including unit and integration tests, code reviews, and clear documentation.
  • Define and manage environments using infrastructure as code and build CI/CD pipelines for safe, repeatable releases.
  • Apply AWS Well-Architected principles, least-privilege IAM, encryption, and secrets management; instrument systems with monitoring, tracing, and structured logging.
  • Tune serverless workloads for latency, concurrency, and cost; troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvement after launch.
  • Participate in client discovery and design sessions, translate requirements into technical solutions, estimate work, and communicate progress and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Guide junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical direction; contribute reusable patterns, accelerators, and engineering standards.
  • Integrate AWS solutions with third-party and enterprise platforms, including CRM, ticketing, and contact center systems such as Amazon Connect where applicable.
