About The Position

NTT DATA is seeking a Senior AWS Database Migration Architect / Engineer to join its team in Charlotte, North Carolina. The role focuses on assessing, planning, and executing complex migrations of relational databases to AWS, while designing secure, highly available, and resilient Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora solutions. The position covers database discovery and migration planning; AWS architecture and infrastructure; hands-on PostgreSQL and MySQL engineering and administration; migration execution using AWS DMS, AWS SCT, or equivalent tools; and testing, validation, DevOps, and automation. The role also develops repeatable migration procedures and contributes reusable components to an established migration framework. Compensation for U.S.-based positions starts in the range of $116,000–$154,000, with possible incentive compensation. Benefits depend on the nature of the role offered.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, cloud engineering, or infrastructure engineering, including leadership of complex database migrations.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience administering and engineering PostgreSQL and/or MySQL databases.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, building, or operating database solutions on AWS, including Amazon RDS and/or Amazon Aurora.
  • At least 5 years of experience assessing, planning, or executing migrations of on-premises relational databases to AWS.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with AWS DMS, including full load, change data capture, monitoring, troubleshooting, and cutover.
  • At least 3 years of experience with schema conversion and compatibility analysis using AWS SCT or equivalent tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Assess database size, growth, workloads, utilization, dependencies, interfaces, availability requirements, and operating characteristics.
  • Analyze schemas, stored procedures, functions, triggers, extensions, scheduled jobs, security models, and application dependencies.
  • Classify databases by compatibility, migration complexity, business criticality, and recommended migration approach.
  • Select target platforms among Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, RDS for MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Aurora MySQL.
  • Produce capacity and sizing recommendations for compute, memory, storage, IOPS, throughput, availability, backup, and recovery.
  • Identify prerequisites, remediation needs, risks, and technical dependencies; develop migration waves, sequencing, runbooks, rollback procedures, and cutover plans.
  • Apply and refine the existing migration framework, reusable patterns, standards, templates, scripts, and automation.
  • Design secure, highly available, and resilient Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora architectures.
  • Configure and support VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and DNS connectivity.
  • Design Multi-AZ, read replica, backup and restore, snapshot, encryption, monitoring, disaster recovery, and high-availability patterns.
  • Design hybrid connectivity using AWS Direct Connect, VPN, Transit Gateway, and VPC networking.
  • Partner with cloud infrastructure and security teams to meet enterprise security, connectivity, and operational requirements.
  • Plan and execute homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations using AWS DMS, AWS SCT, or equivalent capabilities.
  • Implement full-load and change-data-capture patterns to reduce application downtime.
  • Perform schema conversion, data migration, database configuration, performance optimization, and post-migration remediation.
  • Troubleshoot compatibility, connectivity, replication, performance, and cutover issues.
  • Develop repeatable procedures that support factory-style migration across large database estates.
  • Provide hands-on PostgreSQL and MySQL database administration and engineering.
  • Analyze configuration, indexing, query performance, execution plans, connections, locking, replication, and resource utilization.
  • Define backup, restore, maintenance, monitoring, patching, and operational procedures.
  • Identify differences between on-premises implementations and AWS-managed database services and define required remediation.
  • Perform performance benchmarking and tuning before and after migration.
  • Define validation strategies for data integrity, schema, application connectivity, functionality, performance, security, backup and recovery, and operational readiness.
  • Establish reconciliation controls for row counts, data completeness, schema objects, and business-critical data.
  • Define acceptance criteria, go/no-go checkpoints, rollback criteria, and production validation steps; support integration testing, UAT, cutover rehearsals, and production migration.
  • Automate infrastructure and database provisioning using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Develop reusable automation with Python, Bash, PowerShell, SQL, or similar technologies.
  • Integrate migration activities into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or comparable tooling.
  • Maintain infrastructure code, migration scripts, configuration, and runbooks in Git-based source control and contribute reusable components to the established migration framework.
