Senior Autonomy Engineer, Integration

May Mobility•Ann Arbor, MI
•$150,000 - $170,000•Hybrid

About The Position

May Mobility is seeking a Senior Autonomy Engineer to support the integration and validation of autonomous vehicle software as the company expands its autonomous shuttle and mobility services. The role leads integration testing across the autonomy stack, coordinates software deliveries, and owns the end-to-end integration process. It also maintains a stable integration branch and develops automated testing and CI/CD infrastructure. The engineer validates system behavior through simulation campaigns and on-vehicle testing, establishes performance metrics and reports system health, and diagnoses integration failures and regressions. The position also contributes targeted features and fixes and works across perception, planning, and controls teams to coordinate subsystem interfaces, risks, and delivery timing. This is a hybrid role based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Hybrid employees work remotely and from an office or site at a cadence agreed with their leader; the description cites 2–3 days per week or 8 days per month in-office, and also states weekly 1–4 days per week. Travel is expected to be up to 25% during peak demand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a field with a strong mathematical or engineering foundation, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–5 years of industry experience working on real-world autonomous vehicle or robotic systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with system-level integration testing, including simulation and hardware-in-the-loop or on-vehicle validation.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience building or working within CI/CD pipelines and automated test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with git-based development workflows, including branch management, merge request review, and conflict resolution in large codebases.
  • Expertise with software development in a Linux environment.
  • Strong systems-level understanding of autonomous vehicle or robotic software architecture, including the interaction of perception, planning, and controls subsystems.
  • Ability to manage complexity across multiple concurrent development streams and make integration decisions and testing priorities with incomplete information.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools and designing test scenarios that expose edge cases and system-level behaviors.
  • Ability to analyze quantitative performance data, identify trends or regressions, and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing engineering reports or system status summaries.
  • Ability to work across team boundaries and manage competing priorities and dependencies with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with AV or robotics simulation platforms such as Simian, CARLA, or Gazebo.
  • Familiarity with autonomy subsystems such as behavior planning, prediction, perception, or controls, sufficient to diagnose issues spanning subsystem boundaries.
  • Experience developing performance dashboards, data visualizations, or automated reporting tools for engineering teams.
  • Background in ADAS development or safety-critical software validation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration testing across the autonomy stack, coordinate software deliveries from development teams, and own the end-to-end integration process.
  • Maintain a clean, stable integration branch by managing merge requests, resolving conflicts, and enforcing branch hygiene across a large, multi-team codebase.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test pipelines and CI/CD infrastructure for continuous integration of autonomy software.
  • Execute and iterate on simulation-based testing campaigns to validate system behavior across scenarios and operational conditions.
  • Plan and conduct on-vehicle tests, then translate real-world findings into actionable development feedback.
  • Develop and track autonomy-system performance metrics and KPIs, and report system health to the engineering organization.
  • Diagnose integration failures and performance regressions and coordinate root-cause analysis and resolution with development teams.
  • Contribute targeted features and bug fixes to unblock integration or address issues found during testing.
  • Partner with perception, planning, and controls teams to align subsystem interfaces, anticipate integration risks, and coordinate delivery timing.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare plans, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage.
  • Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts for healthcare and dependent care.
  • Retirement benefits, including an immediately vested employer safe harbor match.
  • Paid parental leave and a phased return to work.
  • Flexible vacation policy and paid company holidays.
  • Total Wellness Program with resources for overall wellbeing.
