About The Position

This Senior Autonomy Development Engineer position is with Caterpillar’s Integrated Technology Solutions division of Cat Technology. It is a development role focused on machine collision mitigation and avoidance systems. The engineer defines software and system requirements, develops new features, installs and calibrates perception sensors on machines, works with hardware component and supplier teams, troubleshoots software and hardware issues, and coordinates validation from bench testing through proving-ground testing. The role involves developing application software in C++ on embedded Linux, including camera and radar processing pipelines; managing requirements, interface specifications, and architecture tradeoffs across sensing, compute, and machine integration; and installing, commissioning, and calibrating cameras, radar, compute, and data-acquisition hardware. The engineer plans and executes data collection at proving grounds and customer sites, builds and operates HIL benches, and develops Python automation that turns collected data into repeatable pass/fail results. The position also documents architecture, software designs, verification plans, test cases, operating procedures, and safety procedures. It leads verification and validation, applies functional safety and SOTIF practices, uses appropriate tools to debug and maintain software and hardware systems, provides technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers, and coordinates with hardware component, supplier, and testing teams. The position is full-time at Caterpillar’s Mossville, Illinois office and requires up to 25% travel.
