About The Position

The Senior Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated production systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role provides advanced technical support, leads automation-related projects, and serves as a resource and mentor to junior technicians. The Senior Automation Technician works closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support continuous improvement efforts and minimize downtime. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, vision systems, servo drives, and related automation equipment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, preferably within a foundry or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum Education: Two-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology with a concentration in Automation, PLC, Robotics.
  • Ability to manually lift and move product and materials up to 55 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reaching forward, reaching overhead, lifting, carrying, crouching, and bending.
  • Ability to power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering for truck.
  • Ability to walk, sit, or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks.
  • Ability to push/pull 100 lbs.
  • Ability to see, inspect, and evaluate product quality.
  • Ability to read and understand written work instructions in English.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, including hot and humid conditions.
  • Ability to walk up and down steps.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs of varying height.
  • Ability to wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by LSI, including Protective Footwear (metatarsals or molders boots), Hearing Protection, Protective Eyewear, and Gloves, as required for specific tasks.

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology with a concentration in Automation, PLC, Robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, vision systems, servo drives, and related automation equipment.
  • Perform advanced programming, logic modifications, and parameter adjustments to improve machine reliability.
  • Diagnose control system failures using electrical diagrams, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain and update backups of PLC/HMI programs and documentation.
  • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on automated equipment.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to increase equipment uptime and overall performance.
  • Lead or support installation, setup, and commissioning of new automated machinery.
