Jabil is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to work in our Richardson, TX site. How will you make an impact? As a Senior Automation Engineer with Jabil, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems. You will also focus on enhancing production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness through innovative automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing automation, including design, programming, and implementation of automated systems OR other combination of education or experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Strong experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB).
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience with vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex automation systems and identify root causes of issues.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Automation Engineer with the automation project lifecycle, from concept and design to implementation, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB).
  • Design and integrate vision systems, motion control systems, and other advanced automation technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, process engineering, and quality, to define automation requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of automation system failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Perform feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new automation initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation systems, including schematics, programming logic, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and industry best practices to drive continuous innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all automation projects
