About The Position

iRhythm is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to join iRhythm’s engineering team. This role is based at the Cypress, CA and will have responsibility for performing software and systems development solutions on all industrial automation projects related to manufacturing production assembly and packaging operations. This role will require software programming skills to develop, troubleshoot, and support automation controls, networking, HMI interfacing, and SCADA level systems. This position will be key technical player in supporting the software elements of automation at the manufacturing site. Our work environment is fast-paced, with a collaborative atmosphere. Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields is required: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering
  • Knowledge in the following: Control systems, Digital and analog electronics, Programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, ladder logic), Robotics and automation, Instrumentation and sensors, Networking and communication protocols

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP) – by ISA
  • PLC Programming Certifications – from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, etc.
  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA – for networking knowledge
  • SCADA/HMI Training – vendor-specific (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk)

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider).
  • Develop and maintain control logic for manufacturing and industrial processes.
  • Perform system integration and commissioning of automation equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for control system failures.
  • Configure and maintain industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC UA).
  • Design and support industrial network architecture (LAN/WAN, VLANs, firewalls, switches, routers).
  • Ensure cybersecurity best practices are implemented in control networks.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance for automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain HMI screens using platforms like FactoryTalk Optix, Ignition, or Wonderware.
  • Integrate HMI systems with PLCs and SCADA systems.
  • Provide training and documentation for operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Design, implement, and maintain SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control.
  • Configure data acquisition, alarms, trends, and reporting features.
  • Integrate SCADA with MES/ERP systems for data flow and analytics.
  • Perform system upgrades and patch management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, IT, production).
  • Maintain documentation including electrical schematics, network diagrams, and software backups.
  • Support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies in industrial automation and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things).
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E).
