About The Position

Under the oversight of the Audit Committee and direction of the Chief Audit Executive (CAE), the Senior Auditor performs operational audits, other assurances, advisory, and special projects as needed. The Senior Auditor will lead audit engagements from planning through reporting, including coordinating audit activities, assigning work when appropriate, reviewing workpapers, and ensuring audit objectives are achieved. This is a hybrid role reporting to the Harrisburg, PA office.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field required.
Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an internal auditor or substantially similar experience is required.
Knowledge of internal auditing principles, risk-based auditing methodologies, governance practices, and preferred business practices.
Knowledge of risk management, internal controls, and control frameworks, including familiarity with COSO, Model Audit Rule (MAR), and common indicators of fraud.
Knowledge of Internal Audit Standards, risk management frameworks, and Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) concepts.
Knowledge of information technology controls, automated business processes, cybersecurity risks, data governance concepts, and emerging technology risks.
Demonstrates integrity, accuracy, dependability, and independence within established frameworks and adheres to the professional ethical standards prescribed by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions.
Knowledgeable and proficient with data mining tools and when they are appropriate to use.
Ability to retrieve and analyze data across a variety of mainframe and client-server platforms, including the use of Computer Aided Audit Tools (CAATs).
Ability to independently bridge legacy system data to newer technology platforms, re-perform management reports and calculations, and identify data anomalies and inconsistencies across financial reporting and management reporting systems.
Demonstrates strong PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft products, including Excel, Word, Power BI, SQL, and Copilot.
Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools, data analytics, and automation technologies to improve audit effectiveness, efficiency, and insight generation.
Familiarity with enterprise business applications, financial reporting systems, and ERP environments.
Skill in planning and project management, maintaining composure under pressure, and meeting multiple deadlines.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication, including active listening and presenting findings and recommendations for improvement.
Ability to establish and maintain team-oriented working relationships with co-workers, staff, and external contacts in a professional environment.
Ability to mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to less experienced auditors and project team members.
Must be able to see and effectively use a computer monitor.
Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard and applicable printers and other general office equipment.
Must be able to access and enter information accurately using automated systems.
Must be able to hear and communicate via the telephone and/or monitoring devices to both internal and external clients.
Must be able to present information to individuals and groups.
Must be able to interpret and apply concepts that may or may not be based upon established guidelines.
Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a CPA, CIA, CISA is preferred.
Experience in an insurance environment is preferred.
Working knowledge of insurance industry regulations, NAIC guidance, statutory financial reporting requirements, accounting developments, and auditing developments.

Responsibilities

Lead audit engagements from planning through reporting, including coordinating audit activities, assigning work when appropriate, reviewing workpapers, and ensuring audit objectives are achieved.
Perform tests of controls, substantive testing, data mining, and analytics as planned.
Conduct audits of greater complexity and within sensitive areas of the Company.
Plan, organize, and control work so that audits meet planned objectives and are completed within time and budget per the work plan.
Adjust audit scope and testing procedures as appropriate and properly document all audit scope reductions and expansions.
Prepare well-organized work papers to support detailed audit testing, audit findings, and audit conclusions in accordance with professional standards.
Communicate audit results and critical issues to the CAE and management; as well as the progress of the audit to ensure that audits proceed timely, and according to audit objectives.
Conclude and summarize the results of the audit; and disclose final audit report accordingly.
Prepare and present meaningful audit results; cost-effective audit recommendations; and actionable audit reports to management for their use in strengthening and/or improving internal controls and efficiency in their business unit.
Develop and utilize problem solving and analytical abilities to determine the root cause for audit observations and recommend effective operational and systems enhancements for areas reviewed.
Coordinate and work with management to ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
Assist the Staff Auditor with completing External Audit direct assistance work when deemed necessary.
Communicate with Internal Audit Manager and/or CAE as to the progress of assignments to ensure Direct Assistance is provided accurately and timely as planned.
Assist with periodic Audit Committee reporting, annual internal audit plan development, and the promotion of internal control and corporate governance concepts throughout the business.
Provide advisory support to the business units (as requested) when the units are contemplating process changes; system changes; and departmental alignments; and attend strategic committees (as assigned).
Provide coordination efforts with other third lines of defense (PNI SOC-2, State Examiners).
May supervise and review the work of Staff Auditor resources, co-sourcing resources, or others assigned to a designated project or team.
Serve as a mentor and resource to less experienced auditors and may assist with onboarding, training, and professional development activities.
Perform various projects requested or assigned by the Chief Audit Executive and/or Internal Audit Manager.
May be asked to support the Company’s assessment of internal control over financial reporting in accordance with the Annual Financial Reporting Model Regulation, also referred to as the Model Audit Rule (“MAR”).
May be asked to assist business process owners within identifying and assessing process risks, and testing the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls.
When assigned, perform the review of Staff Auditor work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with documentation standards.
May be asked to assist with testing in more complex areas, including sample selections, support requests, and timely completion of assigned tests.
When assigned, perform the review of Staff Auditor testing work accurately and timely, and coach as needed.
Discuss deficiencies with business process owners and to obtain when observed and obtain management’s remediation plan.
