About The Position

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Senior Auditor to serve within our Financial Audit Division. This position will assist with various financial audits performed on entities across state government, including institutions of higher education. The OSA is the state’s Fiscal Watchdog, holding state government and entities that receive public money accountable, working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 3 years of experience in auditing/accounting OR An equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to develop and follow work plans
• Apply sampling techniques
• Design test procedures
• Assist others in designing test procedures
• Solicit ideas and suggestions from team members
• Follow audit, review, and investigation procedures as planned
• Offer suggestions for improvements to work papers
• Review work for completeness and accuracy
• Ensure work papers are clear and understandable

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning the entire audit process under the supervision of an audit manager
• Assist in the coaching and mentoring of Financial Audit staff
• Lead and conduct on-site fieldwork, including gaining an understanding of internal controls
• Review accounting transactions and perform test procedures on more complex audit areas
• Help in reviewing workpapers prepared by audit teams
• Prepare and review audit reports and findings
• Interact with client management
