About The Position

The Senior Attorney IV in the Litigation Division of the City of Atlanta Law Department is responsible for representing clients in general civil and/or employment litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate work. This role involves handling all stages of administrative hearings and litigation, such as developing strategy, preparing and responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, conducting settlement negotiations, and participating in mediation/alternative dispute resolution. The position also requires managing paralegals and/or other litigation support and administrative staff. The Senior Attorney IV will report directly to the Deputy City Attorney for Litigation and will have extensive contact with the Atlanta City Council, multiple City Departments, and the governing bodies of several other municipalities. Applicants must possess strong research, written and oral communication, analytical skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and interpersonal skills necessary to contribute to a litigation team handling complex legal matters in a fast-paced legal and political environment.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of defense focused litigation experience representing clients in general civil and/or employment litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate work.
  • Substantial first and/or second chair trial experience.
  • Experience working as part of a team, independently, and with Assistant and Associate Attorneys.
  • Experience managing paralegals and/or other litigation support and administrative staff.
  • Juris Doctorate degree required.
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
  • At least ten (10) years of post-graduate legal experience.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Professionalism.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to contribute to a litigation team handling complex legal matters in a fast-paced legal and political environment.
