About The Position

The Senior Associate Underwriter at Novatae Risk Group is a key role within our Wholesale Insurance division, responsible for leading risk assessment, policy analysis, and underwriting excellence. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining high underwriting standards, managing complex risks, and contributing to the success of the underwriting team.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in underwriting within the insurance industry, with a demonstrated track record of managing complex risks, client relationships, and guiding underwriting teams.
  • A valid insurance license, as required by state regulations, is typically necessary for Senior Underwriter positions.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and a deep understanding of underwriting principles.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop underwriting professionals.
  • Effective communication skills for client interactions, mentoring, and explaining underwriting decisions.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software, financial analysis tools, and insurance technology.
  • Ability to adapt to the dynamic insurance environment and maintain high underwriting standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant industry certifications, such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), are often preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field is typically preferred for Senior Underwriter positions.

Responsibilities

  • Independently assess and evaluate complex risks associated with insurance submissions, including reviewing underwriting data, loss history, and other relevant information.
  • Determine the acceptability of risks and establish appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
  • Analyze insurance policies to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Review and evaluate policy terms, conditions, and coverage options, making underwriting decisions accordingly.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex client interactions, providing expert support in risk assessment, policy analysis, and underwriting decisions.
  • Collaborate with clients on high-value accounts, ensuring their insurance needs are met.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, supporting their professional development and helping them navigate complex underwriting scenarios.
  • Maintain high underwriting standards and support the development of underwriting procedures and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure the efficient execution of underwriting tasks and contribute to operational improvement.
