About The Position

The Senior Associate, Systems Engineer provides systems engineering support and leadership for space-based systems and associated subsystems across multiple responsive space programs in L3Harris Technologies’ Space & Mission Systems Segment, supporting the Surveillance Systems Division. The role works on cross-functional teams throughout the program lifecycle, including pursuit, proposals, execution, and operations, and calls for technical troubleshooting and timely communication with leadership about progress and roadblocks. The engineer provides services in engineering, research, evaluation, and development for complex space-based and airborne aerospace products. With minimal direction, the role applies systems engineering principles and techniques to specify, architect, analyze, and model systems; establish requirements flow-downs; and verify designs and complex engineering tasks across electrical, mechanical, optical, RF, software, systems, and hardware components. The engineer presents design analyses to Design Review Boards and may participate in proposal teams. Working with subject-matter experts, the engineer serves as a technical voice for the customer and leads technical work across advanced R&D, capture, proposals, design, integration and test, verification, and sustainment. The role coordinates integration and testing of payload and space-vehicle subsystems, manages requirements and interfaces, supports technical reviews and customer meetings, and performs subsystem- and system-level testing, data reviews, anomaly investigations, and root-cause corrective-action closure. Requirements derivation and tracking using DOORS or an equivalent tool, including requirements verification traceability matrices, and experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering are part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of prior related experience; alternatively, a graduate degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of related experience, or at least 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with requirements derivation and tracking using DOORS or an equivalent tool, including requirements verification traceability matrices (RVTM).
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Active U.S. Government Secret or Top Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering teams across various aspects of the system lifecycle.
  • Ability to perform in-depth technical work and communicate effectively with multiple disciplines, program-office personnel, and customers.
  • Organizational skills to support multidisciplinary teams, achieve technical closure, and manage schedule, cost, and customer expectations.
  • Ability to identify gaps in technical coverage and help fill them during program execution.
  • Experience executing commercial, firm-fixed-price development programs for space.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support and leadership for space-based systems and associated subsystems across responsive space programs.
  • Support programs through the full lifecycle, from pursuit and proposals through execution and operations.
  • Provide engineering, research, evaluation, and development services for complex space-based and airborne aerospace products.
  • Solve complex development problems and apply systems engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Specify, architect, analyze, and model systems; establish requirements flow-downs; and verify designs and complex engineering tasks across relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Present design analyses to Design Review Boards and participate in proposal teams when applicable.
  • Work with subject-matter experts to represent customer needs and lead technical work across R&D, capture, proposals, design, integration and test, verification, and sustainment.
  • Coordinate with System Integration and Test engineers on assembly, integration, and testing of payload and space-vehicle subsystems, including power, attitude control, telemetry and command, command and data handling, and inter-subsystem interfaces.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts on hardware and software requirements definition, decomposition, allocation, management, verification, and validation.
  • Define and ensure interface requirements are flowed down to subsystems and coordinated between subsystems and key suppliers.
  • Ensure subsystem verification testing and analysis are performed with appropriate modeling of inter-subsystem interfaces.
  • Participate in and present information at internal and external technical reviews, including peer, requirements, design, and qualification reviews, as well as customer SRR, PDR, CDR, and TIM meetings.
  • Perform subsystem- and system-level testing, data reviews, anomaly investigations, and root-cause corrective-action closure.
  • Support and lead technical discussions with customers.
  • Identify gaps in technical coverage, communicate them to leadership, and help fill them when possible.
