Senior Associate, Systems Engineer (Palm Bay, FL)

L3Harris Technologies•Palm Bay, FL

About The Position

The Senior Associate, Systems Engineer provides Systems Engineering support and leadership for space-based systems and associated subsystems across multiple responsive space programs in the Space & Mission Systems Segment, supporting the Surveillance Systems Division. The role works with cross-functional teams throughout the full program lifecycle, from pursuit and proposals through execution and operations. The successful candidate is comfortable with a rapid execution pace, applies technical troubleshooting skills, and communicates progress and roadblocks promptly to leadership. The position provides engineering services in research, evaluation, and development for complex space-based and airborne aerospace products. It applies systems engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to solve complex development problems and engineering projects. With minimal direction, the engineer specifies, architects, analyzes, models, and establishes design flow-downs; verifies designs; and tests complex electrical, mechanical, optical, RF, software, systems, and/or hardware components. The role also presents design analysis to Design Review Boards and participates in proposal teams when applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of prior related experience; or a graduate degree or equivalent with 0–2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Experience with requirements derivation and tracking using DOORS or an equivalent tool, including requirements verification traceability matrices (RVTM).
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams across various aspects of the system lifecycle.
  • Ability to perform in-depth technical work and communicate effectively with multiple disciplines, program-office personnel, and customers.
  • Strong organizational skills to support multidisciplinary teams, achieve technical closure, and manage schedule, cost, and customer expectations.
  • Ability to identify gaps in technical coverage and communicate them to leadership during all phases of program execution, and help fill gaps when possible.
  • Experience executing commercial, firm-fixed-price space development programs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to represent the customer and provide technical leadership throughout the product and program lifecycle, including advanced R&D, capture, proposals, design, integration and test, verification, and sustainment.
  • Lead coordination with the System Integration and Test engineer responsible for assembling, integrating, and testing payload and space-vehicle subsystems, including power, attitude control, telemetry and command (T&C), command and data handling (C&DH), and inter-subsystem interfaces.
  • Collaborate with SMEs on hardware and software requirements definition, decomposition, allocation, management, verification, and validation.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to define interface requirements, ensure they are flowed down to each subsystem, and coordinate them across subsystems and key suppliers.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to ensure subsystem verification testing and analysis are conducted with appropriate modeling of inter-subsystem interfaces.
  • Participate in and present information at internal and external technical reviews, including peer, requirements, design, and qualification reviews, as well as customer SRR, PDR, CDR, and TIM meetings.
  • Perform subsystem- and system-level testing, including data reviews, anomaly investigations, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) closure.
  • Support and lead technical discussions with customers.
  • Specify, architect, analyze, model, establish flow-downs, verify designs, and test complex engineering tasks across relevant component disciplines.
  • Present design analyses to Design Review Boards and participate in proposal teams when applicable.
