About The Position

The Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineer participates in developing models and drawings for aircraft structural detail parts, assemblies, and installations. The work supports replacement of obsolete parts identified during aircraft maintenance, modification, and repair. The engineer applies engineering design and analytical theory, with an understanding of structural analysis, to integrated system design while considering program requirements. Designs are created using three-dimensional solid-modeling CAD tools. The liaison and sustainment engineering role supports transition of designs into manufacturing, assembly, and aircraft installation. It also applies aircraft life-cycle maintenance principles, including repair, rework, and design of replacement parts. The position involves interaction with aircraft mechanics, manufacturing, program management, customer representatives, and other engineering disciplines. The role may require leading and teaching engineers, managing multiple priorities with general supervision, and maintaining credible relationships with long-term internal and external customers. The engineer must be able to access aircraft and work in hangars and restricted spaces, including aircraft wing and body fuel tanks. Travel of less than 10% may be necessary. Overtime and some off-shift work may be required, and the employee must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field, including Engineering Technology; alternatively, at least 6 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 2 years of prior related experience.
  • At least 2 years of aircraft-design-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lead engineers on occasion and teach less experienced engineers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with general supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong, credible relationships with long-term internal and external customers.
  • Ability to perform the described aircraft and hangar access and movement requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Material Review Board experience and certification are highly desired.
  • Understanding of basic aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Model and draft aircraft structural detail parts, assemblies, and installations using CAD.
  • Support replacement of obsolete aircraft parts found during maintenance, modification, and repair.
  • Apply engineering design and analytical theory, including structural analysis, to integrated system design while considering program requirements.
  • Support transition of designs from engineering into manufacturing, assembly, and aircraft installation.

  • Lead a team of engineers on occasion and teach less experienced engineers working on engineering drawings that affect operational milestones.
  • Manage multiple priorities with general supervision.
  • Develop and maintain strong, credible relationships with long-term internal and external customers.
  • Walk to and from the flight line; work in aircraft hangars; board and exit aircraft; access and maneuver in restricted spaces, including aircraft wing and body fuel tanks; and walk on wings and fuselage using appropriate safety gear.
  • Travel less than 10% if necessary.
  • Obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
