About The Position

The Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineer develops models and drawings for aircraft structural detail parts, assemblies, and installations. The work supports replacement of obsolete parts identified during aircraft maintenance, modification, and repair. The engineer applies engineering design and analytical theory, including structural analysis, to integrated system design while considering program requirements. Designs are created using three-dimensional solid-modeling CAD tools. The role provides liaison and sustainment engineering support as designed products transition to manufacturing, assembly, and aircraft installation. It also applies aircraft life-cycle maintenance principles, including repair, rework, and design of replacement parts. The position involves interaction with aircraft mechanics, manufacturing, program management, customer representatives, and other engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related engineering field, including engineering technology, and at least 2 years of prior related experience; alternatively, at least 6 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 2 years of aircraft-design-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to walk to and from the flight line, work in an aircraft hangar, board and exit aircraft, access and maneuver in restricted spaces such as aircraft wing and body fuel tanks, and walk on wings and fuselage using appropriate safety gear.
  • Willingness to work overtime and some off-shift hours as required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with general supervision and to develop and maintain strong customer relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Material Review Board experience and certification.
  • Understanding of basic aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Model and draft aircraft structural detail parts, assemblies, and installations using CAD.
  • Occasionally lead a team of engineers and teach less experienced engineers working on engineering drawings that directly affect operational milestones.
  • Manage multiple priorities with general supervision.
  • Develop and maintain strong, credible relationships with long-term internal and external customers.
  • Support the transition of engineering designs to manufacturing, assembly, and aircraft installation.
  • Apply aircraft life-cycle maintenance principles, including repair, rework, and design of replacement parts.
  • Travel when necessary, at less than 10%.
