The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital and grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centres around the world. Requirements

  • Relevant education. Preference is given to candidates who possess an accounting or engineering designation. Candidates with an B.A.Sc on combination with a CFA or MBA or CA, CPA (with a strong component of finance based course work) maybe considered.
  • Two years of experience in Capital Markets, ideally experience as a research associate within the mining sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of PC applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • AI, programming and automation skills are also valued.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to complete and explain detailed financial and statistical analysis.
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in the capital markets industry through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage knowledge of mining and financial analysis to assist the senior analyst in coverage of the sector.
  • Develop into individual coverage for the associate, eventually developing to an analyst role.
  • Gain valuable experience in gathering information, researching companies and industries leveraging primary, secondary and alternative sources, and recognizing and analyzing industry trends.
  • Write reports, develop and maintain financial models and databases.
  • Assist in writing thematic reports.
  • Participate in regular calls with public companies to get direct data from senior management teams, as well as ad hoc calls, meetings and industry events.
  • Liaise with Sales, Trading, Investment Banking colleagues and clients as required.
