About The Position

The Senior Associate General Counsel supports complex regulatory products within multiple business lines within Ascensus, is a subject matter expert and provides legal counsel to executives and business leaders. Key job responsibilities include depth of knowledge in the relevant area of law; negotiating and drafting complex contracts or plan documents; autonomously managing their workload; supporting day-to-day legal matters; and mentoring junior legal associates while demonstrating sound legal and business.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school with at least 15 years of experience
Licensed to practice law in at least one state and in good standing
Desire to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment
Ability to travel occasionally is required
Understand Ascensus’ businesses and give practical advice to business leaders
Think and act strategically
Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with business leaders, clients, prospects, business partners, and others
Exhibit adaptability and lead change
Think creatively, solve problems effectively, and act decisively

For all virtual remote positions, in order to ensure associates can effectively perform their job duties with no distractions, we require an uninterrupted virtual workspace and there is also an expectation of family care being in place during business hours.
Additionally, there is an internet work speed requirement of 25 Mbps or better for individual use. If more than one person is utilizing the same internet connection in the same household or building, then a stronger connection is required.

Note: For call center roles specifically, it is a requirement to either hardwire your equipment directly to the internet router or ensure your workstation is in close proximity to the router.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the financial services and familiarity with ERISA and U.S. data privacy laws is strongly preferred
Law firm (preferably transactional practice) and in-house experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Provide advice and counsel to business leaders on legal, regulatory, legislative, compliance, and business issues
Draft, negotiate, review, and interpret various contracts and other legal documents between Ascensus and its clients, partners, vendors, and other third parties
Manage and resolve disputes, including overseeing outside counsel
Handle other day-to-day legal issues arising in a growing and complex business including employment, intellectual property, and corporate governance
Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.
