About The Position

The Capital One Canada Risk Office is responsible for managing and executing risk management activities, such as: risk assessment programs, risk event governance, controls governance, and controls testing. The Risk Office Testing Team conducts testing of control activities to assess whether controls are designed and operating effectively. The Testing Team is seeking an experienced Senior Associate who will be responsible for conducting control testing to assess the effectiveness of control activities in accordance with Capital One’s Control Standard and other applicable policies. The Senior Associate will be required to develop a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, business processes, and Enterprise Risk Standards to effectively conduct control testing. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong critical thinking, judgment, and analysis skills. Additionally, the role requires the ability to collaborate effectively with business partners and communicate findings in a clear and professional manner. The role will also require the ability to support the testing team and control owners by providing subject matter expertise and ongoing insights into improving the control environment in Canada.

Requirements

At least 3 years of financial consumer compliance monitoring experience, consumer compliance auditing, assessing processes and controls, or in assessing third parties and vendors
Experience in preparing and writing business documents (i.e., presentations for leadership meetings or forums, briefing memos, and reports)
Familiarity with applicable Canadian regulators (OSFI, OPC, FCAC) and regulations that apply to a credit card business
Basic data analysis and scripting experience (i.e, SQL, Python)

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree
Relevant certification or accreditation in Compliance, Risk Management, Legal, or other related fields
Working knowledge of cloud data structure (snowflake)
Experience creating and reviewing test scripts using SQL/Python to test full populations for key attributes
Working knowledge of French language
Strong leadership skills and capabilities
Evidence of strategic thinking
Familiarity of a credit card business, practices, and operations

Responsibilities

Support team testing activities by providing subject matter expertise on control testing and risk management
Lead or support the execution of control tests to assess the design and operating effectiveness of control activities
Collaborate with business partners and review documentation to gather information to perform control testing
Proactively manage testing activities and schedules to ensure that all activities and reporting are completed within expected timelines
Analyze data to identify issues and trends across the Canada controls environment
Execute control testing across a variety of control types, including manual and automated controls where the ability to query data using SQL may be leveraged
Develop and maintain strong relationships with business and second line partners
Assist in the creation of reporting to communicate testing results to business partners
Clearly document and communicate results from control tests for stakeholder review
Support the development of reports and briefing materials to senior management
Navigate organization to quickly understand business processes and requirements necessary to complete testing and to develop a deep understanding of how processes evolve to continually meet changing business requirements
Support strategic risk projects as assigned
Remain current on risk management trends, best practices, and guidelines issued by applicable regulatory bodies
