About The Position

As part of Technology, Data, AI and Ventures (TDAV), you will help shape New York Life's cloud platform strategy by designing, building, and operating secure, scalable, and highly automated AWS cloud platforms that enable enterprise application development and digital innovation. As a Senior Associate, Cloud Platform Engineer, you will leverage cloud engineering, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices to deliver resilient cloud services that improve developer productivity and operational excellence. Working closely with Cloud Engineering, Architecture, Security, Application Development, and Operations teams, you will develop reusable infrastructure, automate cloud operations, strengthen platform reliability, and integrate security and compliance into cloud-native services. This individual contributor role requires strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for building cloud platforms that are secure, observable, resilient, and engineered for scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience) with 5+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services.
  • Strong experience with AWS, Terraform, Terraform Cloud, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud infrastructure automation, and Git-based DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or similar technologies with experience developing automation, APIs, platform tooling, and reusable infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud-native platforms with knowledge of Kubernetes, container orchestration, networking, cloud security, infrastructure reliability, software engineering principles, and production operations.
  • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), monitoring, observability, incident management, root cause analysis, disaster recovery, and operational excellence, with the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across cloud engineering, application development, architecture, infrastructure, operations, and cybersecurity teams while continuously learning new technologies and cloud services.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS services including Lambda, S3, EventBridge, IAM, CloudWatch, EC2, VPC, Amazon EKS, and other cloud-native platform capabilities.
  • Experience developing reusable Terraform modules, cloud platform frameworks, policy-as-code, compliance automation, and infrastructure governance solutions.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, or CloudWatch, and modern CI/CD platforms including GitHub, Jenkins, Harness, or Azure DevOps.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS SysOps Administrator, or AWS Certified Developer, along with experience supporting highly available, resilient, cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, automate, and continuously improve secure, scalable, and highly available AWS cloud platforms using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), cloud-native services, and automation to deliver consistent, repeatable infrastructure provisioning.
  • Develop reusable platform capabilities, automation, and engineering tools using Python, Go, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines to streamline cloud operations, reduce manual effort, and enable application teams to consume infrastructure through standardized self-service patterns.
  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to improve platform availability, scalability, observability, and operational resilience by implementing monitoring, alerting, logging, service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), automated remediation, and incident response processes.
  • Design, implement, and operate Kubernetes and Amazon EKS environments while partnering with Security and Architecture teams to embed cloud security controls, policy-as-code, compliance validation, IAM, and governance into cloud platform services and infrastructure delivery pipelines.
  • Collaborate across Cloud Engineering, Architecture, Security, Product, and Application Development teams to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, support production environments, evaluate emerging technologies, and continuously improve cloud platform capabilities through automation, technical standards, and engineering best practices.
