About The Position

The Senior Assistant Deli Manager is a key leadership role responsible for assisting the Deli Manager in all aspects of deli operations. This position requires a highly motivated individual with a strong background in deli food service, management, and customer service. The Senior Assistant Deli Manager is expected to drive sales, manage inventory, ensure food safety and sanitation, and lead a team to deliver exceptional customer experiences. This role demands excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities, along with a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This is an exempt position that formally reports to the Deli Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Serv-Safe or similar or similar certifications
  • A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in chain retail deli food service or restaurant management.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • General knowledge of inventory management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Available to work any required shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of deli food preparation techniques.
  • Experience with profit and loss (P&L) management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily operations of the deli, including food preparation, service, and sales.
  • Support the Deli Manager in scheduling staff and managing labor costs effectively.
  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stocking products, to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
  • Ensure adherence to all food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Able to operate, clean and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Know and practice rotation procedures to ensure product dates are properly monitored.
  • Assist the Deli Manager in conducting effective interviews to hire the highest quality candidates for the deli team.
  • Provide training and development to deli staff, fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence.
  • Coach and mentor team members to improve performance and enhance customer service skills.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of merchandising strategies to increase sales.
  • Implement and ensure strict quality control measures are always in place when any deli product is put out in cases, hot lines and other areas of the deli.
  • Train and practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
  • Know and promote ads and specials to increase department sales and profits.
  • Regularly review the department is always clean, food is fresh in appearance, is fully stocked and creatively merchandised.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor and analyze profit and loss (P&L) statements, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and assist in creating a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-pace environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressure, and meet deadlines.
