Senior Assistant City Attorney and/or Assistant City Attorney
About The Position
The City is hiring for two positions at either the Senior Assistant City Attorney or Assistant City Attorney level. The Senior Assistant City Attorney provides advanced professional legal services on complex and highly sensitive assignments, advising and representing City government, elected officials, officers, and employees across various legal disciplines while exercising significant independent legal judgment. The Assistant City Attorney performs assigned legal work for which procedures and precedents are well established and provides legal advice, counsel, and representation to City government, elected officials, officers, and employees.
Requirements
- Senior Assistant City Attorney: Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Senior Assistant City Attorney: At least eight years of experience practicing law.
- Assistant City Attorney: Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Assistant City Attorney: At least three years of experience practicing law.
- Admission in good standing to the State Bar of South Dakota.
- Preferred practice experience includes public sector law, regulatory compliance, or diversified program management involving research and/or investigations and data analysis; an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training may also qualify, subject to the hiring authority.

- For the Senior Assistant City Attorney role, handle complex and highly sensitive legal assignments.

- For the Assistant City Attorney role, perform assigned legal work where procedures and precedents are well established.
