About The Position

The Senior Aquatics Director at Merrimack Valley YMCA is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of all aquatics programs and facilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality, safe, and engaging aquatic experiences for all members and guests, while also driving membership growth and retention through innovative programming and exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aquatics management, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful aquatics programs.
  • Experience in budget management and financial oversight within an aquatics setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Prior experience in ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in an aquatic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, members, and the community.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software for scheduling, reporting, and program management.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and set goals for the aquatics department.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in aquatics programming and safety standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by program schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage comprehensive aquatics programs that meet the needs of the community and align with the YMCA's mission and goals.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by maintaining high standards of safety, training, and certification for all aquatics staff.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate aquatics staff, including lifeguards, swim instructors, and other personnel, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of aquatics facilities, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-equipped to meet the needs of users.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create and promote cross-program opportunities and events that enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Develop and manage the aquatics budget, including forecasting, monitoring expenditures, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners to support the growth and success of the aquatics programs.
  • Implement and enforce all YMCA policies and procedures related to aquatics, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and member satisfaction through surveys, feedback, and data analysis, using insights to make informed improvements and adjustments.
  • Act as a representative of the YMCA in the community, promoting the benefits of aquatics programs and fostering a positive public image.
