About The Position

This role is for a senior researcher seeking a career as an independent researcher with opportunities for novel avenues of study. The position involves leading tasks or projects that require a multi-disciplinary approach, collaborating with a dedicated team of scientists to fulfill sponsor needs. The environment fosters innovation and idea-generation, encouraging multi-disciplinary perspectives to explore new research avenues. The researcher will work with physicists, engineers, analytical chemists, and biologists to address critical national defense problems. The primary responsibility is to propose and conduct research aligned with government sponsor goals, utilizing skills in organic, analytical, and experimental chemistry to advance science. The role also involves proposing independent work and exploring new technologies using APL's resources.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical biology or another relevant field.
  • 3 or more years post-graduate experience with biomanufacturing and isolation of biomaterials.
  • Highly skilled at research and able to propose new projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other scientists and connect with the broader scientific community through publication, patents, and presentations.
  • Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Intimate knowledge of DOD CBRNE research applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the development of methods and processes for isolation of biomanufactured products.
  • Experienced with interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with engineers, physicists, or biochemists in other laboratories or institutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in synthesis and detection of antibiotics, toxins, and peptides.
