About The Position

ITTConnect is seeking a Senior APIM Engineer / Lead to work on site for a client in the Nashville, TN or Columbus, OH area. This is a contract position with a client that is a global leader in consulting, digital transformation, technology and engineering services with over 300,000 team members in nearly 50 countries. The end client is in the Utilities sector. The Senior APIM Lead will support the Lead Architect in delivering API platform initiatives. This role is highly hands-on and will take ownership of API design, implementation, and governance within Azure API Management, allowing the Architect to focus on higher-level strategy.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Azure API Management (APIM)
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles
• Experience with API security (OAuth2, JWT, rate limiting, policies)
• Hands-on experience implementing APIM policies and transformations
• Experience working in cloud environments (Azure preferred)
• Ability to operate independently and support architecture direction

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
• Exposure to event-driven architecture / Kafka
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale API platforms
• Prior experience working alongside architecture teams
• Prior work with Utilities companies.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and manage APIs using Azure API Management (APIM)
• Implement API policies (security, throttling, transformation, routing)
• Support API lifecycle: design, publish, versioning, and deprecation
• Collaborate closely with the Lead Architect to enforce API standards and best practices
• Work with backend teams to expose services as scalable, secure APIs
• Troubleshoot API performance, reliability, and integration issues
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automation for API deployments
• Contribute to API governance, documentation, and reusable patterns
