About The Position

This position's primary responsibilities include training and assessing veterinary technical staff and assessing and training research surgeons in basic techniques. This position also has a practical component, with duties such as administering anesthesia to large animal surgical models and possibly performing basic rodent technical procedures for researchers. Additional duties include training researchers and DAR staff as needed to support the overall goals of the training team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience which includes laboratory animal and training experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • LATg certification required.

  • Degrees in teaching or biological sciences are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing and training in aseptic technique, basic surgical competency and anesthetic management (e.g. suturing, intubation)
  • Onboarding new technicians
  • Assessing skills and practices of existing technicians
  • Developing and coordinating continuing education for veterinary professionals
  • Managing training for visiting vet tech students
  • Administering and monitoring of anesthesia of large animal surgical models, primarily swine
  • Conducting procedural technical assists for researchers (e.g. Blood collection, injections), primarily rodents
  • Might directly or indirectly manage other training staff
