Senior Analytics Engineer - Decision Intelligence

Deepgram•,
•$185,000 - $240,000

About The Position

Deepgram is building its decision layer, which is a governed set of numbers that people and AI agents can act on without re-deriving them. This role is responsible for building and maintaining this layer. The data platform team handles ingestion, orchestration, and latency. This role focuses on transforming data in the warehouse into the layer above conformed gold tables, creating semantic models, and developing agent-facing tools that enable users to ask questions and receive reliable answers. This is a senior technical individual contributor role on a new team, and the successful candidate will be among the first engineers on the team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated AI-native practice, using AI daily and intricately as a way of working that has changed what you attempt.
  • Production-grade SQL and Python skills, with experience shipping code on a schedule and implementing instrumentation for issue detection.
  • Experience owning a semantic or metrics layer (e.g., dbt, Cube, LookML), including changing definitions that others depend on and communicating those changes.
  • Strong modeling judgment over tool knowledge, reasoning about grain and keys before writing queries, and differentiating data defects from business definition issues.
  • Comfort working in work-in-progress infrastructure, building processes and ticket queues as you go.
  • Clear writing skills, as much of the output will be definitions or contracts that others must trust.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with usage-based or consumption business models.
  • Experience with real-time billing and consumption systems.
  • Experience with Lakehouse architectures (Iceberg, Athena, Trino, or similar).
  • Contributions to open-source data or AI projects.

Responsibilities

  • Model the gold layer, creating conformed entities for customer, account, project, product, and contract.
  • Develop and maintain the identity model that spans Salesforce, the console, Stripe, and the billing system.
  • Own the semantic layer by authoring models that define metrics consistently for dashboards, notebooks, and agents.
  • Version and retire semantic models as needed.
  • Build the agent-facing surface, including tools, permissions, and MCP surfaces, to enable analysts and agents to navigate data effectively.
  • Implement correctness checks, including assertions on grain, uniqueness, and cross-system reconciliation, routing issues to named owners.
  • Evaluate agent output against known-correct answers, tracking accuracy, refusal, and confidently-wrong rates.
  • Absorb questions from sales, product, and finance, and build models that make answering future, similar questions more efficient.
