About The Position

Monument Chemical, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, serves the specialty chemicals industry by producing a variety of solvents, intermediates, specialty fuels, and other specialty products, while also offering industry-leading Custom Manufacturing services. This senior-level role is focused on laboratory instrumentations and test methods, ensuring the accuracy of laboratory data, performing non-routine analyses, and serving as a liaison to other departments and customers. The position requires the use of process/chemical/analytical knowledge, in-depth technical expertise, and plant operations experience to identify, develop, and implement optimum analytical technology supporting process and product performance. The role also provides analytical support to other departments and sites within Monument Chemical.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • 5+ years Analytical lab experience.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required (FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, respiratory protection, safety glasses, chemical goggles, face shield, gloves etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • 2 year IATA shipper certification. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of lab instrumentations and test methods, including new purchasing requests, installations, repairs, preventative maintenance, record control, and associated method development.
  • Serve as LIMS and lab server Administrator.
  • Daily raw data and LIMS review for production analyses.
  • Review flow sheets for specification accuracy and set up profiles and specifications in LIMS.
  • Creation and ownership of lab test methods, including reviewing and updating test methods and standards sheets, ensuring they are in the appropriate location.
  • Review production schedule and ensure lab readiness for analysis.
  • Act as the laboratory department reviewer for Management of Change (MOC).
  • Handle certificate of analysis requests from supply chain.
  • Troubleshoot plant and customer problems.
  • Perform non-production analyses for customers.
  • Provide assistance for R&D sample analysis if needed.
  • Perform simple R&D experiments.
  • Responsible for the Stability program of GMP products.
  • Generate crude reports for R&D.
  • Contribute value creation through continuous improvement of analytical work processes, related tools, and performance metrics.
  • Instrument ownership, repair, standardization, and calibration.
  • Create in-house standards and maintain standard and reagent records.
  • Evaluate expiration dates on standards periodically to ensure no expired standards or reagents are in use.
  • Purchasing laboratory supplies (reagents, consumables, office supplies, etc.).
  • Serve as the 3rd Party SAP focal point and SME.
  • Perform periodic C of A review for completion and accuracy (spot checks).
  • Manage activities of the laboratory assistant and provide backup.
  • Handle sample shipments via FedEx or other carriers.
  • Serve as backup for other Senior Analytical Chemists.
  • Assist with the training of new lab chemists.
  • Responsible for preparing round robin samples for analytical shift chemists and compiling the data.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities in the analytical lab.
  • Act as backup Timesheet manager for hourly lab personnel.
  • Serve as the lab vendors point of contact.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.
