About The Position

The Financial Institutions Ratings team at S&P Global Ratings delivers independent credit opinions on banks and securities firms, providing market participants with the transparency they need to make decisions with confidence. The team produces rigorous, criteria-based fundamental research in a fast-paced environment that values analytical integrity, intellectual curiosity, and collaboration. As a Senior Analyst covering financial institutions, you will own the credit ratings process for an assigned portfolio of bank and securities firm credits, producing independent, well-supported credit opinions that inform investors, issuers, and the broader market. Your work will contribute directly to the quality and integrity of S&P Global Ratings' coverage of one of the most systemically important sectors in global finance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in credit or equity research, banking, risk management, underwriting, or a related analytical field
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, apply accounting concepts, and conduct fundamental credit analysis of financial institutions
  • Understanding of fixed income and debt capital markets and their application to credit analysis or research
  • Ability to evaluate complex information, exercise sound analytical judgment within established frameworks, and communicate recommendations clearly and effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for financial analysis and reporting
  • English: Fluent (able to conduct meetings, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally)

  • FRM (Financial Risk Manager) designation or equivalent risk management certification
  • Experience contributing to analytical projects or team initiatives and working effectively across functions
  • Experience providing guidance or sharing technical knowledge with junior colleagues

  • Demonstrated interest in identifying opportunities to improve analytical processes, quality, or efficiency

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full credit ratings process for assigned financial institutions — including quantitative analysis, issuer engagement, committee preparation, and rating publication — within established criteria and analytical frameworks
  • Manage ongoing surveillance for an assigned portfolio, conducting fundamental credit analysis and identifying developments that may affect creditworthiness
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis on industry topics, including capital frameworks, operational risk, and liquidity risk, contributing to credit insights, peer comparisons, and industry commentaries
  • Analyze complex or less clearly defined credit issues, applying sound analytical judgment and available data to identify appropriate approaches and recommendations
  • Engage professionally with issuers and internal partners to gather information, communicate analytical views, and support the delivery of high-quality credit analysis
  • Share analytical knowledge and provide guidance to junior colleagues, contributing to the knowledge and skill base of the broader team
