About The Position

We are hiring a Senior Analyst, Capital Assets [full-time, permanent] based in Edmonton, AB. The Senior Analyst, Capital Assets is accountable for providing assistance with all aspects of capital assets reporting, including the maintenance of sub-ledgers for both capital assets and capital projects, and support of the capital budget, forecast and regulatory filing processes. This includes achieving accurate and timely reporting of capital assets information, for both IFRS, US GAAP, and regulatory reporting. The Senior Analyst, Capital operates within established policies, standards, and guidelines while partnering with stakeholders across the business to support effective capital asset management and financial stewardship.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • 4+ years of directly related progressive professional accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting financial reporting, analysis, reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Strong understanding of current IFRS accounting guidance and policies, with a focus on capital assets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and its application to financial analysis, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration and relationship-building abilities.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and financial problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and highly confidential financial information.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process enhancement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education).

Nice To Haves

  • Capital assets accounting experience is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of EPCOR financial processes, including accounts payable and receiving processes, as well as capital assets reporting, is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Oracle financial systems and related support applications is considered an asset, including: Oracle Fixed Assets, Oracle Projects, General Ledger, Business Intelligence, Adaptive Insights.

Responsibilities

  • Providing input into departmental plans, priorities, and strategic direction while maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against established performance metrics, including the accurate and timely reporting of capital asset information to meet business unit and Corporate Finance requirements.
  • Maintaining Oracle Fixed Assets, including capitalizing projects and calculating and recording fixed asset depreciation.
  • Providing capital asset information to support annual budgets, forecasts, long-term plans, and regulatory applications.
  • Preparing and delivering monthly capital expenditure reporting to support Operations, Management, and Corporate Finance, including analyzing and explaining variances against budget and forecast.
  • Producing monthly account reconciliations and preparing quarterly reporting packages in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with NACS Operations management and operational staff to support accurate project and fixed asset accounting.
  • Providing guidance on the accounting treatment of capital-related transactions in accordance with Canadian GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring project costs to ensure only expenditures eligible for capitalization under IFRS and US GAAP are being recorded in the financial records.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the Capital Assets function.
  • Maintaining a strong internal control environment, including ensuring compliance with CSOX requirements.
  • Collaborating with business areas across NACS to develop and implement standardized capital processes aligned with the Capital Investment Policy.
  • Developing consistent monthly and quarterly capital reporting practices across business areas, with a focus on forecasting accuracy and effective governance.
  • Supporting due diligence activities for business development initiatives and assisting with the integration of newly developed or acquired businesses and operations within North American Commercial Services.
  • Performing other duties and participating in special projects as assigned.
