About The Position

The Senior Analyst, Business Intelligence is a strategic intelligence professional and commercial partner to the Firm's partners, focus and practice group leaders, and business development professionals. The role is central to the Business Intelligence (BI) function, which delivers timely, accurate and insight-driven intelligence to support client development, competitive positioning and Firm-wide strategic initiatives. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Analyst leads complex research mandates, translates data into actionable intelligence, and advises senior stakeholders on market trends, client dynamics and competitive developments. The role actively contributes to the continuous improvement of BI methodologies, tools and knowledge products. The Senior Analyst is expected to move BI from reactive request-fulfilment to proactive strategic intelligence, identifying opportunities and surfacing insights before they are requested. This role is replacing a current vacancy.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Library/Information Science, or a related analytical field.
  • Minimum six years of analytical experience in a professional services, legal, financial services or consulting environment with demonstrated evidence of delivering high-impact research to senior audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint or equivalent DMS.
  • Working knowledge of commercial research databases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent high-priority mandates independently.
  • Analytical rigour and critical thinking.
  • Understanding of business development processes and professional services environments.
  • Expert-level command of legal sector research databases.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI).
  • SQL querying capability.
  • Familiarity with CRM and experience management platforms (Microsoft Dynamics, Foundation/Litera).
  • Knowledge of legal practice management systems (Aderant).
  • Working knowledge of AI/GenAI tools as applied to research workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS/MIS), MBA or equivalent advanced degree is an asset.
  • Experience in a law firm or legal sector BD intelligence function is preferred.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Prior involvement in competitive intelligence, client profitability analysis or strategic research in law or equivalent professional services environment.
  • Professional affiliation with the Special Libraries Association (SLA)
  • Certifications in data visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI) or relevant research platforms

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex, customized research mandates covering clients, prospects, competitors, industries and markets.
  • Synthesize findings from multiple data sources into lawyer-ready deliverables including competitive profiles, client briefings, market maps, sector analyses and pitch-support materials.
  • Proactively monitor priority clients, sectors and market developments to anticipate information needs and surface relevant insights without waiting for reactive requests.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of BI research frameworks, methodologies, templates and standardized deliverables.
  • Serve as a trusted intelligence advisor to lawyers and business services professionals by framing complex data in commercially relevant terms that inform real decisions.
  • Lead stakeholder scoping conversations to define research objectives, deliverable formats and timelines with precision.
  • Confidently present research findings and strategic recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Leverage a broad suite of commercial research platforms, legal databases and competitive intelligence tools (e.g., CRM/Microsoft Dynamics, Aderant CMS, Foundation/Litera, S&P Capital IQ, Thomson Reuters, Manzama, PitchBook).
  • Produce data visualizations and dashboards to present quantitative findings in formats accessible to key stakeholders.
  • Apply SQL or equivalent data querying capabilities to extract and manipulate structured datasets from Firm databases.
  • Own the evaluation and integration of emerging AI and GenAI tools to automate routine research workflows and free capacity for deeper, high-value analysis.
  • Curate and maintain internal research libraries and reusable intelligence assets to support knowledge continuity and team efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative, intellectually curious team culture by sharing expertise, offering substantive feedback and encouraging continuous professional development.
  • Ensure the Firm remains current on tools, trends and best practices.
  • Gather and track standard information on research requests to monitor and report on performance against established service standards and KPIs.
  • Identify patterns in research demand and recommend proactive intelligence products or service improvements to address recurring stakeholder needs.
  • Contribute to the development of reporting dashboards and intake processes to improve efficiency, quality, and visibility of the function's impact across the Firm.
