Senior AI Product Builder - FC Automation

ShipBob, Inc.
$151,080 - $289,570Remote

About The Position

As a Senior AI Product Builder – FC Automation at ShipBob, you will own the full build loop for Automation Product and Strategy. This involves defining how ShipBob's WMS integrates with automation hardware to enhance productivity and quality across the fulfillment network. You will be responsible for shipping the WMS-side product, integrations, and workflows that bring this strategy to life. Your responsibilities span the entire build loop: discovery, story/specs creation, AI-augmented prototyping, and delivering production-ready pull requests (PRs). This role is distinct from a traditional Product Manager role; you are expected to be a builder and an automation strategist. You will leverage AI development toolchains (e.g., Claude Code, Driver.ai) to understand ShipBob's codebase architecture, generate functional code directly against the repository, and deploy to production with minimal engineering rework. A significant technical proficiency is required: you must be able to interpret ShipBob's data model, assess the accuracy of AI-generated scaffolding, identify manual workflows suitable for automation, and author precise stories/specs that AI tools can execute without further clarification. This position is ideal for individuals driven by speed, averse to waste, and who prioritize shipped outcomes over approved documentation. You will establish the automation strategy for your domain, which includes evaluating automation hardware options, determining their suitability for ShipBob, and developing the WMS integrations, workflows, and operator experiences necessary for their effective use on the floor. As ShipBob adopts new automation technologies, you will be instrumental in translating these into measurable improvements in productivity and quality. You will operate within an AI-native pod alongside an AI Engineer, AI/Prompt Engineer, and a Designer. This role reports to a Director, AI Product Builder.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product management, product engineering, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated hands-on AI tool usage in a professional context.
  • Proven ability to write story/specs that AI tools can act on directly — state machines, business rules, data contracts, edge cases — not narrative PRDs.
  • Technical fluency: can read a data model, evaluate an API contract, and identify when AI-generated code deviates from the target architecture.
  • Track record of shipping working prototypes or production code, not just Figma mocks or slide decks.
  • Strong outcome ownership: sets success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time and tracks them after launch.
  • Experience working in supply chain, fulfillment, logistics, transportation, or e-commerce technology.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping automation product strategy in a fulfillment, warehouse, or manufacturing context — selecting automation hardware, integrating it with a WMS or shop floor system, and shipping measurable productivity and quality gains.
  • Comfortable operating in a fail-fast culture. Being wrong fast is a feature here — staying slow to look right is the failure mode.
  • Excellent written communication: you write specs, not meeting notes.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with the AI development toolchain (e.g., Claude Code, Driver.ai, Cursor, Replit, V0, Figma AI).
  • Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, or Python — enough to debug AI-generated code and understand what the Engineer is reviewing.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems, order management, carrier integration, or fulfillment operations at scale.
  • Prior experience transitioning a product team from traditional SDLC to an AI-native operating model.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse automation hardware — person-to-goods, goods-to-person, AS/RS, robotics, sortation, conveyance, pick-to-light, palletization (robotic and semi-automated), computer vision (dimensioning, item recognition, quality inspection), and similar systems — and direct experience integrating automation hardware into a WMS to lift productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full product loop independently: AI-augmented discovery → story/spec → prototype → production PR → outcome measurement. You are accountable for the outcome, not just the handoff.
  • Independently conduct customer discovery and use AI tools to synthesize research across tickets, interviews, behavioral data, and competitive signals.
  • Demonstrate deep functional and technical knowledge of owned products end-to-end. Independently demo to merchants and partners; understand competitive landscape and key differentiators.
  • Use AI tools independently to analyze product metrics, identify usage patterns, and surface anomalies. Define success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time without coaching.
  • Maintain a prioritized automation roadmap ranked by impact × speed. Use AI tools to synthesize competitive intelligence, market trends, emerging warehouse automation capabilities, and customer insight into strategic inputs.
  • Identify the highest-leverage productivity and quality opportunities in ShipBob’s fulfillment operations. Evaluate automation hardware options, recommend the right strategic fit, and own the WMS-side product work that integrates them into the floor.
  • Independently evaluate whether a proposed solution fits ShipBob's architecture without Engineering translation. Understand service boundaries, data structures, and how merchant and partner API usage shapes data contracts.
  • Independently route changes through prototype-then-PR. Write clear story/specs and review AI-generated code before raising. PR promotion rate improves consistently.
  • Set experiment hypotheses with explicit kill thresholds. Make day-7 rollout/kill decisions on AI-surfaced data.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.
