About The Position

Dutch Bros is investing in enterprise AI capabilities to accelerate delivery, enable self-service technology, and help teams solve business problems faster. Tulip is a strategic AI platform that provides reusable patterns, tools, and services for delivering AI-enabled solutions across the organization. Its mobile experiences support shop crews, field leaders, and operators who are rarely at a desk. The Senior AI Mobile Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for designing, building, and shipping mobile and field-facing experiences on Tulip. The role focuses on user experience and workflow automation, transforming manual, paper-based, and desktop-bound processes into intuitive mobile workflows and integrating Tulip’s AI services into the apps and devices used by field teams. It also contributes to platform architecture, integration patterns, and engineering standards, and mentors peers through design discussions and code reviews. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic builder and technical partner who prioritizes the end-user experience, designs for real shop and field conditions—including intermittent connectivity and one-handed use—navigates ambiguity, and delivers high-quality AI-enabled mobile solutions aligned with business priorities. The position is located in Tempe, Arizona, and requires working in the office four days per week, Monday through Thursday. Fridays are optional remote work days.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on experience building and shipping production mobile applications on iOS, Android, or cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter.
  • Experience partnering with design, prototyping and testing with real users, and shipping fast, accessible, intuitive interfaces for non-technical frontline staff.
  • Experience digitizing manual and paper-based workflows into mobile-first processes, including offline-first data capture, synchronization and conflict resolution, push notifications, camera and barcode scanning, and location-aware features.
  • Experience integrating AI-enabled services into end-user applications, including large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agent or workflow orchestration, conversational and voice interfaces, and responsible AI guardrails.
  • Strong API and integration skills, including REST, GraphQL, and event-driven services, and collaboration with backend and platform engineers.
  • Experience with mobile release and quality practices, including app store and enterprise distribution, MDM-managed devices, mobile CI/CD, crash and performance monitoring, automated UI testing, and phased rollouts.
  • Working proficiency in Python or a comparable backend language, and sufficient platform and cloud fluency with Azure, AWS, or GCP, containers, CI/CD, and observability to extend Tulip services as needed.
  • Experience securing mobile and enterprise integrations, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SSO on shared and personal devices, on-device data protection, and secrets management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with field and operations teams to understand their work and translate needs into technical designs and executable engineering work.
  • Must work in the Tempe, Arizona office four days per week, Monday through Thursday; Fridays are optional remote work days.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions, and collaborate in person, including in occasional impromptu meetings.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, twist, stretch, and work at a desk for extended periods, and occasionally move or lift office items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have sufficient or correctable hearing to understand spoken information and participate in meetings and calls; hearing aids or other assistive devices are acceptable.
  • Must be able to read and write English for job-related documents, reports, and follow-up.
  • Must have adequate or correctable vision to read computer screens and use visual tools.
  • Must be proficient with computers and office productivity tools such as printers, scanners, and collaboration software.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • Integrate mobile experiences with Tulip services and enterprise systems, and extend platform capabilities where needed.
  • Apply and improve secure, maintainable, testable, and observable mobile and service engineering practices, including release management and phased rollouts.
  • Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and shared UI and integration patterns.
  • Spend time in shops and with field leaders, translate observations into product decisions, and connect delivered experiences to measurable business value.
  • Partner with design, prototype and test with users, and deliver accessible, intuitive interfaces for frontline staff.
  • Work with backend and platform engineers to make mobile clients performant and resilient.
