About The Position

At hyperexponential (hx), we’re building the AI-powered platform that enables the world’s most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision. We are backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, and are scaling globally. AI is at the core of what we do, from building the world’s first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates. The AI Strike Team exists to reimagine how software is built at hx. Rather than layering AI tools on top of traditional development workflows, this team is redefining the software development lifecycle using AI-native practices, enabling dramatic improvements in both engineering velocity and product quality. Operating as a high-autonomy group within the wider Technology organisation, the team delivers complex product epics significantly faster than traditional teams while building the guardrails required to ensure safety, stability, and compliance at scale. As a Senior member of this team, you will operate across the entire codebase, using AI tools and agentic workflows to rapidly understand systems, ship features, and improve developer productivity. You will also help translate these practices into repeatable patterns that raise the baseline engineering capability of the organisation. We're looking for engineers who think like product builders: curious about customers, opinionated about what's worth building, and focused on shipping things that matter. In an AI-native team, the lines between engineering, product, and design blur - and we want people who lean into that.

Requirements

  • Built or significantly evolved AI-assisted engineering workflows that measurably accelerated delivery speed while maintaining production reliability.
  • Delivered complex product features across unfamiliar codebases by rapidly understanding architecture, dependencies, and constraints.
  • Architected scalable cloud infrastructure and CI/CD systems that enabled fast, reliable software delivery in production environments.
  • Implemented automated testing, security, or quality systems that reduced operational risk while increasing development velocity.
  • Evaluated and integrated modern AI development tooling, selecting pragmatic solutions that improved productivity and software quality.
  • Partnered with product and design to shape requirements and influence what gets built, demonstrating strong judgement across trade-offs between speed, quality, and scope.

Nice To Haves

  • You prefer clearly defined ownership boundaries and predictable roadmaps over navigating ambiguity and moving quickly across unfamiliar systems.
  • You are uncomfortable challenging established engineering practices or experimenting with new approaches to software development.
  • You prefer incremental optimisation of existing workflows rather than fundamentally rethinking how engineering work gets done.
  • If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you’ll do your best work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver complex product epics at 3–5x the velocity of baseline engineering teams, ensuring high-quality functionality reaches customers faster without compromising system integrity.
  • Architect AI-assisted guardrails across the SDLC, including autonomous testing pipelines, AI-driven security reviews, and automated code quality agents that maintain stability while enabling rapid iteration.
  • Use AI tools to rapidly map dependencies and navigate unfamiliar parts of the hx codebase, safely delivering cross-domain improvements without relying on traditional ownership boundaries.
  • Build and evolve AI-native development workflows, integrating tooling across coding, testing, CI/CD, and deployment environments.
  • Translate successful strike team practices into reusable patterns, tooling, and paved road workflows that scale across the wider engineering organisation.
  • Work directly with product, design, and customers to shape what gets built, pushing back on scope, finding simpler solutions, and focusing engineering effort on the problems that matter most, with ownership defined by impact rather than title.

Benefits

  • £5,000 training and conference budget for individual and group development.
  • 25 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total).
  • Company pension scheme via Penfold.
  • Mental health support and therapy via Spectrum.life .
  • Individual wellbeing allowance via Juno.
  • Private healthcare insurance through AXA.
  • Income protection and Life Insurance.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Top-spec equipment (laptop, screens, adjustable desks, etc.).
  • Regular remote and in-person hackathons, lunch and learns, socials, and game nights.
  • Quarterly team breakfasts and lunches, snacks, drinks fridge, and a fun office at The Ministry .
  • Exceptional opportunities for personal development and growth as we build something remarkable together.
