About The Position

BillGO is building the next generation of payments. Our vision is to be the payment accelerator for Small Business: an intelligent network that helps businesses get paid faster, operate leaner, and grow with confidence. We are hiring a Senior AI Engineer to own the architecture, quality bar, and end-to-end delivery of one or more AI capability areas across BillGO's Payments Platform. This is a technical leadership role at the center of BillGO's AI-native strategy, spanning intelligent automation, AI-native customer experiences, and future agentic payment workflows. You will sit within BillGO's Application Engineering organization, setting technical direction for AI engineering, mentoring AI Engineers, and partnering with Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Product Management to move AI capabilities from architecture and ideation through production at scale. Your work turns BillGO's AI Three-Level Framework (Internal Efficiency, Revenue Acceleration, and Customer Value) into durable, reusable AI systems that other engineers and teams can build on with confidence. Unlike the AI Engineer role, which focuses on delivering defined AI features, this position owns technical direction across the AI capability portfolio: setting architecture standards, evaluating build-versus-buy tradeoffs, and keeping AI systems consistent, reusable, and safe across teams.

Requirements

5+ years building and shipping production software, including significant experience owning AI or machine learning systems end-to-end.
Deep proficiency in object-oriented languages and hands-on experience integrating LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, or similar) into production systems at scale.
Strong software architecture fundamentals: distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms, data pipelines, infrastructure, and observability.
A track record of setting technical direction, establishing engineering standards, and mentoring other engineers.
Deep understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, model evaluation, guardrails, and responsible AI practices.
Excellent technical communication: able to translate complex AI tradeoffs for engineering, product, and executive audiences.
Comfort operating with significant ownership and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Master's degree a plus.

Fintech, payments, or regulated-industry experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Own AI architecture and technical strategy. Set the technical architecture for one or more AI capability areas, and evolve reusable patterns for LLM integration, RAG, embeddings, and evaluation used across AI Engineering.
Deliver AI capabilities end-to-end. Own capability areas from architecture and design through production operation and continuous improvement, meeting BillGO's bar for reliability, accuracy, latency, and safety at scale.
Make build-versus-buy and model decisions. Balance quality, latency, cost, and long-term maintainability, and design for reuse so systems can be extended rather than rebuilt for each use case.
Practice responsible and secure AI at scale. Establish guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and monitoring appropriate for a regulated payments environment, and partner with Security, Compliance, and Legal on AI risk, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.
Mentor and raise the bar. Provide technical guidance to AI Engineers, lead architecture and design reviews, and model rigorous, production-grade AI engineering practices for the broader organization.
Partner across the platform. Work with Product Management to shape the AI-native platform roadmap, and with Engineering leadership to sequence AI initiatives against capacity.
Build reusable AI systems, not one-offs. Establish the patterns, tooling, and standards that let every team integrate LLMs, RAG, and agents the same way, and reduce duplicate or one-off implementations across the platform.
Design for agentic workflows. Architect for the next generation of agentic payment workflows, not just today's features, so BillGO's AI foundation scales with the roadmap.
Raise the floor on quality and safety. Bring evaluation, guardrails, and monitoring into the core of how AI ships, so accuracy and safety are built in rather than bolted on.
