About The Position

Kong's IT team is establishing a new, specialized group focused on integrating AI directly into business functions to enhance how work is performed. This role is for a senior practitioner to help lead this AI Enablement effort. This is a hands-on position where you will work directly with supported teams to build tools that address real-world problems and assist individuals in acquiring new, transferable skills. The scope of this role is company-wide, impacting departments such as Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, Legal, and Customer Success. You will have the autonomy to determine the most impactful areas for your efforts and will receive support from IT leadership to achieve your goals. Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical or cross-functional role involving problem-solving across teams and functions.
  • Demonstrated success in building AI-powered tools, automations, or workflows that have significantly impacted work processes, with specific examples.
  • Experience in enabling others to develop new technical skills through training, coaching, or team enablement programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts clearly and respectfully to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and demonstrate self-direction.
  • Experience working within or supporting an IT organization or similar role across multiple business functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AI development platforms and tools like Claude, Claude Code, MCPs, LLM APIs, custom agent frameworks, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Background in change management, organizational development, or large-scale rollouts involving skeptical stakeholders.
  • Experience in consulting, solutions engineering, or a client-facing technical role requiring trust-building and rapid delivery.
  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS tools such as Okta, Slack, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Jira, or Freshservice.
  • Experience creating internal toolkits, playbooks, or training programs that achieved sustained adoption.
  • Familiarity with Kong Konnect, Kong Gateway, or API management concepts, including the connection between APIs and AI models.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the operational workflows, tools, processes, pain points, and key outputs of business teams.
  • Develop AI-powered workflows, automations, and custom tools to resolve bottlenecks and achieve measurable time savings.
  • Coach team members on AI skills through one-on-one sessions, collaborative work, and structured practice to foster independent use.
  • Identify and implement reusable solutions across different teams.
  • Create a framework for tracking AI adoption across business units and report progress to IT leadership regularly.
  • Define documentation standards for all tools, workflows, and learned lessons.
  • Collaborate with IT, Security, and Engineering to develop internal AI governance standards.
  • Mentor junior team members and interns, providing practical experience and constructive feedback.
  • Research and apply relevant AI developments to Kong's business context.
